Description of the walk

Parking at the Post Office car park in Raddon.

(S/E) Walk back a few dozen metres towards Fougerolles and turn right onto Rue de l’Église. Continue to Rue du Moulin, which you take on the left.

(1) Just before the bridge over the Breuchin, at the first junction, turn left onto Rue du Stade. At the second junction, carry straight on along Rue du Stade until you reach a large sports hall.

(2) Take the path running alongside the sports hall on your left. After a long bend to the right, turn sharply left. The path begins to climb; it is marked by a Yellow Ring. Continue along this path, which climbs slightly in places. Shortly after a wide bend to the left, you will reach a crossroads and notice, on your right, the Étang Trésurier.

(3) After a short break by the pond, retrace your steps and take the path directly in front of you. Walk past Étang de Sommepey and you’ll reach Grange Durand at a road junction.

(4) Take the wide path that opens up to the right of the road. Continue straight on, ignoring the paths branching off to both the right and left, until you reach the Étang de la Remoulure. Turn left to cross the dyke that encloses the pond.

(5) After passing the dyke, take the first path branching off to the right and, quite soon, at the first Fork in the road, take the left-hand branch. The path makes a wide bend to the left and leads you to a four-way junction. Take the path on the left and you will come to a small road.

(6) Turn right onto the road (be careful, it’s a busy road) and walk along the left-hand side until you reach a lava quarry, a former lava pit.

(7) Once you have visited the small quarry, return to the road towards Les Forges and, before the hamlet, turn left into the first path entrance. A short climb awaits you; continue straight up it. Ignore a path entrance on your right but turn left when you come to a path running perpendicular to the one you are following. You will arrive at La Grosse Grange, a small cluster of houses. Continue until you reach a road, where you turn right. Go straight on at the first junction and continue to a second junction marked by a large building. You are now in Chapendu.

(8) Continue along the road ahead, which turns into a path a little further on. Follow this path until you reach a road (at a place called La Planchotte), which you will take to your left. The road makes a wide left-hand bend. Take the first path branching off to the right, marked by a wooden sculpture and an old trough.

(9) Follow the track straight ahead until you come to a path running perpendicular to the one you are on.

(10) Turn right and continue straight ahead at the next junction. After a first sharp bend to the left followed by a sharp bend to the right, you will reach a small pond at a place called La Cubette.

(11): Turn right and cross the hamlet to enter the forest a little further on. Continue straight ahead. The road turns into a path which you follow until you reach a Fork in the road.

(12) Take the right-hand fork. Continue straight ahead, ignoring several side paths on both the left and right. After a while, the path begins to descend steeply and leads you back to the starting point (S/E).

Worth a visit

Étang Trésurier (3), Étang de la Remoulure (5) and Étang de la Cubette (11) are lovely places to stop for a break.

The Lavière (7) was the site of a very special activity, described on an information board.

A lovely family walk, not at all difficult, with a well-marked route. Beautiful ponds.

I discovered this lovely walk. The only slight downside is that there’s a bit of tarmac. It’s not difficult and is suitable for the whole family. I came across some pretty hamlets and ponds. The paths are lovely and, on the whole, well signposted. I plan to suggest it to my walking club. I recommend it.👍🚶😄
