Description of the walk

Park in the car park in the village of Larbey.

(S/E) From the car park, follow the tarmac road north-north-west. Cross the D8 and head for the junction in the Cazalé district.

(1) Cross the junction and continue along this road until you reach the white sign for “Mugron”. Turn right and follow the road to the waste collection centre.

(2) Take the road on the right and follow it to the ruined barn.

(3) Leave the road and turn left onto the dirt track to reach the Louts stream. Follow it until you reach a tarmac road with a road bridge on your right.

(4) Cross the tarmac road and continue along the Louts on a dirt track. Pass a pidgeon hunting hut (brown sign). Continue along the track that runs alongside the river until you reach the Harioula barn.

(5) Carry straight on until you reach the first track on your left. There’s a short climb to reach the Harioula track; follow it until you reach the small tarmac road.

(6) Follow it to the right until you reach the D8. Turn right and cross the small bridge.

(7) Immediately take the stony track on the left. Walk up a short slope to the poultry farm, leaving it on your left. Continue along this track, which passes a pidgeon hunting hut at the edge of the forest, until you reach a junction of several stony tracks.

(8) Take the path on the left, follow the Laourole stream and cross it. After a short climb along the stony path, you’ll reach the junction of the hamlets of Baylion, Casse and Cherry on the D8.

(9) Follow the D8 to the right, then turn left onto the Route du Cazalé and continue to the first crossroads.

(1) Turn right back onto the original route to return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

Worth a visit

Before or after, depending on your preferences and how you’re feeling, do visit the church. Its bell tower is an excellent landmark, visible from far and wide.

A really lovely walk, with some beautiful views; there’s a stretch of over a kilometre along the road, but there’s very little traffic. Otherwise, the scenery is magnificent – it’s best to do this walk in sunny weather, as many of the paths are muddy.

A pleasant walk, but not to be undertaken in wet weather. The areas you pass through – the Carolins Forest – are very muddy when it rains. 50 per cent of the route is on tarmac. A walk without any particular difficulties,

A walk in the sunshine. The first few kilometres are along the road, which isn’t very pleasant. After that, a lovely path running alongside the river. A leisurely walk, with no difficulties at all.
