L'Étang de Leday

Montlouis is a small village where you can enjoy a pleasant time at the Étang de Leday, whether for a picnic, a spot of fishing or simply to get some fresh air. Don’t miss the elegant façade of Montlouis’s Romanesque church, which boasts some real gems, and the cheeses from the de Chaussé family, right next to the lake.

Description of the walk

Start from the Étang de Leday.

Follow route no. 13 where other routes intersect – the other numbers correspond to routes in neighbouring villages.

(S/E) Walk around the lake in either direction (the route is marked on the map as going clockwise).
Once back at the starting point, head off to the left, south-west.

(1) Continue along the main path. Follow a stony path.

(2) At a three-way junction, turn right. Go straight on until you reach the hamlet of La Petite Ravauderie.

(3) Head for the village of Montlouis by taking the road on the right that goes uphill. Stay on the road; ignore a road at the edge of the village.

(4) Cross the main road, continue to the cemetery and turn left.

(5) You’ll come out onto a small road; follow it to the right.

(6) Take the first road on the left towards La Chaume. Pass this hamlet and continue along the path that runs straight on.

(7) Turn left at La Font Cornue to return to the village of Montlouis.

(4) Continue straight ahead, passing the church on your left.

(8) Take thefirst path on the right, lined with hedges. At the end of the hedges, turn slightly right.

(9) Follow a small road to the left.

(10) At the crossroads, turn right. Pass through the hamlet of Leday (home to a producer of farmhouse goat’s cheese) and return to the pond.
