La Chambonnaise

A charming home to Le Jacquin snails, the village of Chambon covers a large area.
This walk takes you along lovely paths bordered by cultivated fields or pleasant meadows with charming little valleys.
You can take the opportunity to fill your basket with snails in La Madeleine and with vegetables and meat in Les Charaquins.

Description of the walk

Start from the church square.

Follow route no. 1 – the other numbers correspond to different routes in neighbouring villages.

(S/E) With your back to the church, head left and walk past the village hall on your right. Immediately after, follow the path to the right.

(1) At the T-junction, turn right. After about 500 m, take the path on your left and then turn right. Continue straight ahead.
Cross the road and continue along the path in front of you. You will arrive opposite the rural lodge in the hamlet of St Julien (municipality of Saint-Symphorien).

(2) Take the tarmac road on the right, pass a Charolais cattle farm and take the stone path on your left. This path continues over grass, on the right.
Continue for over 500m before reaching a stone path.

(3) Turn right and, almost immediately, left. Cross a road and, at the wayside shrine, continue along a path that climbs straight ahead. At the cross, you’ll arrive at the hamlet known as “La Madeleine”.

(4) Turn left to pass in front of the “Le Jacquin” snail farm. A few hundred metres further on, cross a bridge.

(5) At the Trian, turn immediately right. Continue along this grassy path and turn right at the first three-way junction.
Walk through a wooded area alongside the Trian (stream)
Cross the river via the small wooden bridge and continue straight ahead.

(6) Shortly afterwards, head to the right and then straight on to walk alongside a field on your right.
You will arrive at “Au bout du monde” and onto a road. Go straight on and you will reach “Maisons Neuves”. Continue until you reach the bend in the road.

(7) Take the wide path on the right, opposite the “Charaquins” farm shop (selling market garden produce).
At the end of this path, turn left to reach La Benneterie, then turn left to return to your car park. (S/E).

A nice little walk; the section through the woods is lovely. I wouldn’t recommend doing it in hot weather as the first half is through fields.
