The Altrheinweg between Freistett and Helmlingen.

In Freistett, take Kronenstrasse towards the L75. Park at the first junction on leaving the village.

(S/E) Walk along the tarmac path on the left for about 100 metres, then leave this road and take a path on the left running alongside an orchard.

(1) Turn right onto the path and follow the hedge. At the end of this path, turn left onto the tarmac road.

(2) Turn right before the bridge and follow the path between the Rhine discharge canal and the ponds. Cross one path, then another.

(3) Turn left, cross the bridge, then immediately take the path on the right along the canal.

(4) Cross the next bridge on the right, then turn left onto the tarmac path running alongside the forest. Shortly afterwards, take the path on the right leading into the forest. Ignore a path on the right.

(5) At the crossroads, turn right onto Grenzweg. Turn left at the junction onto Hüttenweg. Walk past the hut. Ignore a path on the right, then turn left onto Stellweg 3. Turn right.

(6) Turn left onto the embankment of the Rench high-water canal. Then turn right, cross the bridge over the canal and take the path on the left.

(7) Turn right before the Renchaltlarm stream. Turn left onto the path.

(8) Turn left at a 90° angle onto the unpaved path running alongside a wood. Cross a bridge. Continue straight ahead on the road at the junction, climb onto the embankment and continue.

(9) Turn left onto Rheinweg, cross the bridge over the Rench and, immediately afterwards, turn left onto the path running alongside the canal.

(10) Turn left at the junction and, shortly afterwards, right onto the path running alongside the Helmlingen-Muckenschopf pond.

(11) Turn right onto the embankment and, shortly afterwards, turn left into the forest. Continue straight ahead at the junction.

(12) Take the path on the left. Stay on this path which runs alongside the Mühlbach. Walk past the sewage treatment plant on the right. Continue along the path at the end of the track until you reach the road.

(13) Continue along Muhlenstrasse, turn right, cross a bridge.

(14) Turn left after the shed. Stay on this path until you reach the road.

(S/E) Turn left onto the road and head for the car park.
