The walk starts at the car park of the Le Fil d'Eau cultural centre, Quai des Bateliers in La Wantzenau. It can be reached by CTS bus (line 72, Général Leclerc stop).
(S/E) Walk along Quai des Bateliers with the Ill river on your right, then continue along Rue de la Digue. At the end of the street, continue along Sentier de la Digue.
(1) Turn right onto Rue de la Forêt, then turn right again after the horse riding centre. Return to the banks of the Ill and cross a section of forest. Ignore the side paths until you reach a fork.
(2) At the fork, go straight ahead to the entrance to the forest.
(3) At the entrance to the forest, turn left and walk along the edge of the forest. Cross two small wooden bridges and you will arrive at the dyke.
(4) On the dyke, turn right. After turning right and then left, you will reach the junction with Chemin du Waldrhein.
(5) Leave the dyke by taking the path on the right. Walk along the Waldrhein.
(6) At the next crossroads, continue straight ahead along the Waldrhein. The path approaches the dyke.
(7) Leave the path that joins the dyke on the left and follow the Sentier de Pêcheurs (Fishermen's Path) on the right. Follow this path, staying as close as possible to the Waldrhein, until you reach the area along the banks of the Ill called S'Barraquel (formerly Le petit Paradis). Enjoy this peaceful spot. (Thanks to the people who maintain it on a voluntary basis).
(8) Go back up onto the dyke and turn left onto the path.
(9) When you reach a larger dyke, take the path on the left. Stay on the dyke until you reach the junction with the Waldrhein path.
(5) Take the same path you took on the way there, staying on the dyke for about 200 metres.
(4) Go down the path on the left, return to the edge of the forest, the two small wooden bridges and the path that enters the forest.
(3) Turn left into the forest. Cross one bridge, then a second. Go through a gate. Follow this path to the end. It turns into a path on the right at the edge of the Ill and leads to S'Barraquel.
(10) Go back about 20 metres and turn left onto the path that runs alongside the Ill. From the Gloriettele, the path becomes a track. On your left is a meadow with old pollarded willows. Continue along the path that runs alongside the Ill. Go through a gate to return to the fork and the path you took on the way there.
(2) At the fork, take the path towards La Wantzenau. Turn left at the riding school and continue to thefirst house.
(1) At the crossroads, turn left onto the dyke path. Enter La Wantzenau via Rue de la Digue. Continue along Quai des Bateliers and arrive at the car park (S/E).
