Access to the start point: in Offendorf, take the road leading to Offendorf Harbour and the Rhine. Park at the junction just before the harbour (the EDF road on the left is now closed to traffic).
(S/E) Take the path on the left at the top of the embankment. Walk along Offendorf Harbour towards the Beilenkopf fishing lake.
(1) At the second right-hand bend, go down the dyke via a path, cross the road and head right for about 20 metres.
(2) Take the path on the left and head into the woods. Walk alongside the fishing pond for about a hundred metres.
(3) Turn left. After 60 metres, ignore a path on the right at the sign for the ‘Rossmoerder Nature Reserve’ and go through the gate. Ignore a path on the left. The path then turns right.
(4) At the crossroads where four paths meet, marked by plot numbers 13, 14, 15 and 16, turn left. After a long straight stretch, cross a small wooden bridge over a backwater of the Rhine and continue straight on.
(5) At the junction, go straight on. At the end of the path, continue along the road to Rossmoerder Pond, which offers a beautiful view (from here you can also climb up onto the Rhine embankment).
(6) Return along the same route to junction 5 and turn right. Cross a small bridge (note the freshwater mussels in the river) and head for the T-junction.
(7) Turn right and cross the small bridge. Walk for about ten metres until you find a barely visible path on the left.
(8) Take the path on the left and follow the Rhine’s oxbow lake through tall grass. The path then enters the hazel forest. Cross a track near an old bunker and follow the path as it winds its way between the hazel trees along the backwater of the Rhine. Ignore a side path with a small bridge on the left and continue to a junction with a wider track.
(9) Take the path on the left to a small bridge 50 metres above a backwater of the Rhine, then continue to a second bridge 100 metres further on. Retrace your steps back to the previous junction.
(9) Continue to the left. Ignore a path on the right, then another on the left, and go straight on at the next junction.
(10) At the next junction, turn left and walk about a hundred metres until you reach a path branching off to the right. Follow the path to the right and reach the old Rhine embankment. Follow the path along the embankment to the left. Ignore the path on the right which leads to Offendorf. You will arrive at the junction with the Rhine Road.
(11) Continue straight on along the Rhine Road. After a left-hand bend, cross a bridge and continue to the car park at the start (S/E).
