Dreikirschenweg-kleine runde in Achern

A circular route starting from Achern station, known and signposted as the ‘Dreikirschenweg – Kleine Runde’ (a short 14 km route, with a longer alternative, the 18 km ‘Grosse Runde’), is one of the great classics. Special feature: a route with almost no elevation gain, about half of which is on tarmac. It passes partly through the town of Achern, its suburb of Oberachern, and the village of Mösbach.

Suitable for a wide audience, this route presents no technical difficulties and is ideal for occasional walkers, cyclists and families alike. Throughout the route, you can enjoy a varied landscape alternating between urban areas, orchards, vineyards and the open countryside typical of the Black Forest foothills. It also offers several interesting views of the surrounding hills and, on a clear day, of the Rhine plain towards Alsace. Benches and rest areas are dotted along the route, providing pleasant spots to take a break.

(12) Webers hofglūck (possible break – self-service), a little further along the Renchstrasse L88, turn right (on the other side of the road, view of the cemetery). Continue south on the Renchtalstraße until you reach Hänferstraße on the left.

(17) After the underpass, turn left, continue parallel to the railway line to Oberachern, Oberkircherstraße. Cross this following the signposts and continue parallel to the railway line to Achern.

(4) Take Josef-Wurzler-Straße on the right, follow it for a short distance, then turn left onto Rue "Am Acherrain" and take Wilhelm Schechter Straße on the right, cross the bridge and continue straight ahead.

Notes

There are several places to stop off and many fruit growers selling their produce directly from the farm along this route. Notably Webers Hofglück: a farm café, set up as a self-service spot with cakes, coffee and ice cream. It is also a farm shop selling seasonal produce, some of which is grown on the farm itself, as well as all sorts of fresh produce from local producers.

Every year in April, the village of Mösbach celebrates its “magic of the cherry blossoms”, a festival where everything revolves around the red fruit for a day: www.kirschbluetenzauber.de.

There are other cherry-themed walks from north to south along the Rhine Valley; among the best known are the Oberkirch trail, the Obereggenen Cherry Valley ( south, near Mulhouse), in the Kaiserstuhl region, the Kirschbaumpfad (Cherry Tree Trail) betweenSasbach and Endingen, and another north of the Kaiserstuhl (Königschaffhausen / Sasbach), and also the circular route around Endingen am Kaiserstuhl (vineyards + orchards).

This route was completed on 15 April 2026 by the Branquignol.e.s (a famous group of epicurean hikers from Isac, whose motto is ‘having a blast on foot’). The cherry trees were in bloom... magnificent.
