A circular loop through the Roumare Forest

Park in the car park of the judo club hall, Rue des Martyres de la Résistance in Grand Quevilly.

(S/E) Opposite the judo hall, turn right and continue to the traffic lights. Cross the road and carry on straight ahead, passing the cemetery on your left, cross the railway line and continue down the hill to the T-junction.
Turn left onto Rue Sadi Carnot and immediately take the^first right onto Rue de la République. Carry on straight ahead along Rue André Mallet, stay on this road, then turn right onto Rue Gustave Boutigny. You will then reach Rue Pierre Corneille; turn right onto it to reach the junction with Boulevard Pierre Brossolette.

(1) Turn left onto it and carry on to the traffic lights. Cross Boulevard Stalingrad and continue straight ahead to the ferry landing stage; take the ferry to the opposite bank. On exiting the ferry on the right bank, make your way to the road via the pedestrian access on the right.

(2) Cross the road and turn right onto Quai de Danemark. Walk a few hundred metres until you reach the first road on the left, just after the Hector Malot school. Turn left onto Rue du Cimetière, walk up the hill and, at the top, facing the cemetery, turn right to climb the wooden and grassy steps.

(3) At the top of the steps, turn left. Walk up the slope to the Y-junction and turn left. Continue to the power lines (at^{the second} pylon, enjoy the view over the Seine valley). Turn right into the field right on the edge of the forest, walk to the path that joins and turn left onto Route Forestière de la Mare Terreuse. Carry on straight ahead, ignoring the magenta signposting which heads off to the left, and join the Route de Sahurs.

(4) Turn left and continue to the Carrefour des Treize Chênes. Cross the road, ignore the path on the right and the road on the left, and carry on straight ahead along the middle path, the Route Forestière de Saint-Georges à Dieppedalle. Cross the oncoming road and carry on straight ahead. At the Y-junction, turn right; turn left at the T-junction and immediately take the first path on the right to reach the tarmac road, Rue du Val Phénix.

(5) Cross the road, continue straight ahead along the uphill track, pass under the power lines and carry on to the road beyond the forest gate. First turn right then left, follow the Chemin des Demoiselles (tarmac) and continue straight ahead along the gravel track until you reach the tarmac road, the Chemin du Coq à l’Âne.

(6) Turn left, ignore the first turn-off on the right, and turn onto the path on the right – signposted as a hiking trail – which joins just as the road curves to the left. You’ll come to a star-shaped junction.

(7) Turn slightly left and then immediately right, just past the scrap metal barrier on your right. Follow the small path uphill which runs alongside a hunting ground on your right and which becomes a track quite rutted by wild boar; continue for a few hundred metres and turn left at a right angle. Carry on along this track, passing under the power lines. Carry on along the track opposite to descend to the road, Rue du Val Phénix, and turn left until you reach the first road on the right.

(8) Turn right onto Route Forestière aux Dames and walk for about 50 metres. Turn onto the first path on the right which runs alongside Rue du Val Phénix. Walk to the end of the path, where you’ll come to a T-junction with a house opposite. Turn left, ignoring the path on the right which runs alongside the property fence. Continue uphill to the next turn-off on the right.

(9) Turn right and follow the path to reach a wide junction at the Allée au Chevreuil.

(10) Ignore the wide path opposite; take the path slightly to the right and follow it down to the tarmac road, Route Forestière à Madame. Cross the road and continue straight ahead along an uphill path. Ignore two turnings on the right and, at the star-shaped junction, turn right. Walk for 230 m and turn left, following the^GR®2to the hamlet of Le Valnaye.

(11) Continue straight ahead, going down the road to the hairpin bend on the right. At the bend, follow the path on the left (^GR®2); on the uphill section, turn right, still following the^GR®2. Continue along the^GR®2to the first cattle shed in the field on the right. Leave the^GR®2, which branches off to the right, and continue along the path on the left until you reach the road; follow the fence for a few metres.

(12) Cross the road, go round the back of the fence to the right and turn onto the path on the left, the Route Forestière de la Commanderie, until you reach an X-junction. Turn left onto the Route Forestière à la Biche. Continue along a straight stretch to reach the Rond-Point de la Martel.

(13) Cross the road and turn right onto the Route du Val-de-la-Haye to Quevillon. Turn left onto the Route Forestière au Loup, then right at the^second junction. Next, take the^second left until you reach the T-junction with the Allée à la Bécasse.

(14) Turn right and, immediately afterwards, at^{the first} junction on the left, turn onto the Route Forestière au Faisan. Ignore the first X-junction, a left-hand turn, and a second X-junction, and continue to the star junction. Carry on straight ahead along the Route au Rossignol and reach the crossroads of the same name.

(15) Turn right after the private road onto Route Forestière au Loup. Continue straight on, following the magenta signposts, until you reach the road, Rue du Hardel.

(16) Turn right, then take the first left just before the traffic lights onto Rue Centrale, and carry on to the end. Turn left onto Quai de Danemark, carry on to the traffic lights, cross the road and head for the ferry landing stage.

(2) Take the ferry across the Seine to the left bank.
When you get off the ferry, head straight ahead and walk up the left-hand pavement. At the traffic lights, cross Boulevard Stalingrad and head straight ahead onto Boulevard Pierre Brossolette. Go past the traffic lights and under the railway bridge. You’ll come back to the original junction.

(1) Continue straight on along Boulevard Pierre Brossolette. At the roundabout, turn right towards the cinema car park. Cross the car park diagonally to the left, passing behind the Gaumont cinemas building, and join Rue des Martyres de la Résistance at the cemetery.

Turn left and follow the same route as on the way there to reach the car park on Rue des Martyres de la Résistance (S/E).

Nearby, in the forest, there is a wildlife park where you can observe forest animals such as red deer, fallow deer, roe deer and wild boar. The park features a path with viewing points for visitors, as well as forest tracks suitable for a range of activities (cycling, rollerblading, walking, running, etc.). It is a very popular spot on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, where little ones can, under parental supervision, take their first steps or have a go on a bike, and perhaps enjoy a fresh, sweet crêpe to top up their energy (a vendor is on site in a converted caravan).
There are car parks at the entrance to the park, on the Route de Sahurs in Canteleu.
