Around the Zénith via the Pierre d’État in Grand-Quevilly

A pleasant route for hiking, brisk walking, running and mountain biking. An easy urban route with plenty of tarmac roads and paths, even through the forest towards the end of the route.
There is nothing in particular to see, apart from the Pierre d’État menhir (a large rock); it’s simply the pleasure of walking.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park of the judo club, Rue des Martyrs de la Résistance in Grand Quevilly.

(S/E) Opposite the judo hall, turn right onto Rue des Martyrs de la Résistance and continue to the traffic lights.

(1) Turn left onto Avenue du Général Leclerc via the cycle path and continue down to the roundabout.

(2) Cross Avenue Franklin Roosevelt and continue straight ahead on the cycle path until you reach the
next road (Avenue Georges Braque).

(3) Cross the road (bus crossing only) and turn right, staying on the cycle path.
Go under the RN338 bridge, take the left-hand bend and carry on to the roundabout.

(4) Do not go round the roundabout, but take the path leading off to the left up the hill
overlooking the RN338. Carry on up the hill to the end (do not leave the path). Return to the
tarmac and go straight on until you reach the junction with Rue du Madrillet.

(5) Cross the street to enter the woods. Take the path and first turn left then right. Continue straight on
until you reach the next junction, where you’ll see a residential area.

(6) At the junction, before the houses, take the path on the left and walk down to the bottom to reach the Pierre d’État menhir (large rock).

(7) At the menhir, take the path on the right to head down to the Route de la Pierre d’État.

(8) Cross the road and go up the path opposite (slightly to the right). At the top of the hill,
carry straight on down to the next junction.

(9) Take the path directly opposite and carry on straight ahead, ignoring the paths to the right and left.
After 600 metres, the path narrows slightly. Carry on straight ahead, go round the bend to the left and
turn right straight away. At the T-junction, turn right again.

(10) You will then rejoin the Chemin de Grand-Couronne at Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray. Turn left and follow it. Walk up the slope (Route des Essarts au Milthuit). Pass under the high-voltage power lines and continue to the end (wire fence separating the dual carriageway).

(11) Turn right onto the tarmac path and go under the D13 bridge. Follow the road alongside the
high-voltage power lines, then turn left at the second junction. Walk past the Essarts Community Social Action Centre (CCAS) (Allée de la Mare Sifflot), then past the pond, and continue to the roundabout.
Caution: from the roundabout and for about 400 metres, there is a danger due to traffic.

(12) At the roundabout, turn right and go over the dual carriageway. Go through the second roundabout
taking the D13 towards Oissel. Ride alongside the premises of the Société des Autoroutes de Paris Normandie (SAPN).
and over the Essarts junction, still heading towards Oissel.

(13) Cross the road (caution: danger) and take the tarmac track opposite (Route du Fond de l’Essart).
Carry on straight ahead along this long straight stretch (about 3 km) to reach the Carrefour du Rond de Montmorency.
Note: there are benches all along this section.

(14) Take the third road, which veers slightly to the left (Rue de la Mare Sangsues), pass the first barrier and continue to the second.

(15) Cross the road (Avenue de l’Université), head straight ahead and pass the Novotel and the Campanile. When you reach the Ibis hotel, cross the road to go past the small car park and join Avenue des Canadiens.
You’ll find yourself here opposite the Rouen Zenith; cross the road and take the cycle path on the right.
You’ll arrive at the Courtepaille restaurant.

(16) Turn left (uphill access road) and at the next road, turn left again to go round the back of the restaurant onto Route du Chemin de la Poudière. Follow the road to the end until you come to a fenced-off field.

(17) Take the path on the right and then immediately left onto Rue du Lieutenant de Vaisseau Paris, and continue
to the stop sign.

(18) Turn left onto Avenue Savorgnan de Brazza. At the bus stop on Boulevard Jules Dumont d’Urville,
cross at the pedestrian crossing and continue down the road on the left until you reach the Metrobus terminus.

(19) Turn right onto Avenue Georges Braque. Go through the traffic lights and continue down to the roundabout.

(20) Turn left and cross Avenue Franklin Roosevelt straight away. Turn left and head down
to the next roundabout. Take the right-hand exit and continue to the right-angled bend. Cross the lawn and turn left to return to the starting point (S/E).

An easy walk, though there are two slightly dangerous sections on the road – it’s a shame the boundary stone isn’t signposted or highlighted

Today’s walk: 2 January 2020, under grey, damp skies.
This walk is ideal for the day after the festive season to work off all the rich food, as I can confirm there isn’t much to see!
Just the pleasure of walking!!!!!
It must be lovely to do in autumn...
