The quays of Rouen

Park in the free car park at the foot of the Flaubert Bridge.

(S/E) Head to the Flaubert Bridge and walk under the bridge.

(1) Take the stairs on the Rouen side and cross the bridge. Turn left at the foot of the stairs and walk to the tip of the Rollet peninsula. Enjoy the view of the silos here.

(2) Walk along the right-hand side of the Bassin aux Bois, go under the Pont Flaubert, then turn left to reach the quay.

(3) Turn right onto Quai Jean de Béthencourt. Pass under the Guillaume le Conquérant, Jeanne d’Arc and Boïeldieu bridges to reach the Pont Corneille. Cross it to the left to reach a flight of steps.

(4) Take the stairs, then turn right onto Rue Georges Sand. Continue along Avenue Jacques Chastelain until you reach the sports centre.

(5) Turn left onto Rue Stendhal, then Rue de l'Industrie to return to Pont Corneille.

(4) Once there, walk around the tip of the island, go back up onto the bridge and turn left onto Rue de la République until you reach the junction with Rue du Général Leclerc.

(6) Turn left onto it and continue to Place de la Calende. Turn right onto Rue de l'Épicerie to reach Place de la Cathédrale. Turn left onto Rue du Change. Walk along the west side of the cathedral to reach the junction with Rue Gros Horloge.

(7) Turn into it opposite, continue to Place du Vieux Marché, then reach the junction with Rue du Vieux Palais.

(8) Turn left onto this street and walk down to Quai du Havre.

(9) Cross at the traffic lights after the TEOR station and reach the quays by passing under the Pont Guillaume le Conquérant. Continue along the right bank of the Seine to reach the junction at the Pont Flaubert.

(1) Turn right and retrace your steps along the route you took on the way there to return to the car park at the foot of the Pont Flaubert (S/E).

An easy walk with no significant elevation gain. You can take the lifts at the foot of the Flaubert Bridge to avoid the stairs. A fully paved urban walk, with no issues in wet weather.

(1) The Gustave-Flaubert Bridge is a bascule road bridge spanning the Seine. It marks the boundary of the section of the river accessible to seagoing vessels. It was opened on 25 September 2008. Panoramic view of the city.

Between (3) and (4) The left-bank quays, developed for walking. Two recently restored tide gauges. They date from 1895 and 1891. They indicated the tide levels.
From (4) to (5) Île Lacroix, the last island on the Seine before the sea.
From (6) to (8) A walk through the historic centre, the Cathedral, Rue du Gros Horloge and Place du Vieux Marché.
Between (9) and (1) A glimpse of the second restored tide gauge, which indicates the tide level. Opposite, a view of the Hôtel de Département de la Seine-Maritime. Plenty of terraces to take a break at the end of the walk. Passing by the France 3 Normandie studios.
