Gulf of Morbihan from Saint-Gildas to Tour-du-Parc

Stage 4 of the 5-day tour of the Rhuys peninsula. This lovely walk will take you to the beautiful beaches of the southern coast of the Rhuys peninsula, with opportunities for a swim. Offshore, there are views of the islands of Houat, Hoedic and Belle Île, as well as the Quiberon peninsula. The Château de Suscinio, the estate of the Dukes of Brittany set in a natural area rich in biodiversity, is a must-see in Morbihan.

Description of the walk

(S) From the car park, take Rue Laennec on the left. At the roundabout, turn right, then immediately left onto Chemin du Petit Pont.

(1) Head right to follow Chemin de la Fontaine Saint-Félix. Pass a fountain on your left and continue for about 300 m.

(2) Immediately after the well, take the left-hand bend, then turn right to continue along Route du Port aux Moines, until you reach the port of the same name.

GR®34 red and white markings

(3) Take the coastal path (GR® 34) on the left and follow it until it joins a PR®.

PR® yellow markings

(4) Depending on the tide level, continue straight on for 200 m along the PR® to rejoin the coastal path (marked route). Otherwise, take the GR® to the left, which makes a short circular route before returning to the coastal path.

Reach the Pierre Jaune menhir.

(5) Continue to follow the coastal path. Go round the Pointe de Saint-Jacques to reach Port Saint-Jacques.

(6) Walk along the harbour and continue to follow the coastal path.

PR® Yellow Signposting

(7) Depending on the tide, follow the PR® straight on along the beach for about 800 m to rejoin the GR®34 (route). Otherwise, take the GR® which goes round via the hamlet of Trévénaste, then rejoins the coastal path.

Walk past Les Sources campsite.

(8) Walk along Anse de Suscinio and its beach until you reach a car park.

(9) Take the road on the left and head to the castle, which is well worth a visit.

(10) Turn back towards the car park.

(9) Join the GR®34 on the left. Walk along Penvins Beach, come out onto Route de la Chapelle, and follow it to the right, towards Pointe de Penvins, for about 150 m: you can admire the Quiberon Peninsula.

(11) Turn left, rejoining the coastal path, then continue to Pointe Becudo.

(12) Walk along the beach to the Banaster bridge, on the border between Sarzeau and Le Tour-du-Parc. Head to the car park on the left (E).

Notes

Start from the car park 200 m from the former Abbey of Saint-Gildas.
This hike is part of a 5-day trek around the Rhuys peninsula. Unlike other stages, it does not appear possible to take public transport back to the starting point.
