Fond du Pimeux via the Croix Bleue

Bergères is a charming wine-growing commune in the Côte des Bar. This route offers picturesque landscapes of the Côte des Bar through valleys, hillsides, vineyards, fields, moors and forests. From April to June, magnificent orchids bloom on the calcareous soils of the Côte de l'Église and Côte Garnier. This route largely follows the Circuit de la Croix Bleue. It also follows the GR® de Pays des deux Bar and the GR® Gaston Bachelard.

Description of the walk

Depart from the car park opposite the church in Bergères.

(S/E) Go down Rue del'Église to take the D101 towards Arconville via Rue de la Bonne Fontaine. Pass the wash house and reach a track on the left.

(1) Leave the main road and take the track, passing alongside a large building. After 200 metres, at the three-way junction, turn right and continue until you reach the D101.

(2) At Val Brut, turn left onto the forest path. At the fork, turn right onto the gravel path.

(3) At the T-junction, turn right, cross a wood and then between two fields to reach the edge of the forest.

(4) At Le Chanet, before entering the Bois de Pimeux, make a round trip to the Croix Bleue on the right. Enjoy the view over the fields.

(4) Back at Le Chanet, enter the forest and turn left at the boundary between lots 27 and 28.

(5) Leave the PR® (and the Route de la Croix Bleue) and continue along the forest path, still in the same direction. Pass between lots 28 and 13, then descend a fairly steep slope.

(6) At Fond du Pimeux, turn sharply left and descend the valley. Join the GR® (and the Route de la Croix Bleue, lot 6) via a circular on the left.

(7) Climb up through the forest, heading west, until you reach a T-junction.

(8) Turn right and then immediately left to leave the forest.

(9) Take the path on the right at the edge of the woods. Enjoy the view of the hillsides and fields.

(10) In the left-hand bend, turn right to re-enter the forest, then immediately turn left.

(11) When you reach the road (D201), cross the main road on the left and enter the forest via the path on the right. Descend to the edge of the forest.

(12) Turn right to pass above the vineyards and arrive at the fork overlooking the cemetery.

(13) Enjoy the view of Bergères, the information panels and the picnic area. Finally, descend directly towards the church and return to the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

Legend has it that the death of a nobleman in an accident is the origin of the Blue Cross. The colour of the cross refers to blue blood.

Every Ascension Thursday, the village of Bergères hosts Plant Day with dozens of exhibitors specialising in perennials, annuals, trees, shrubs, etc., as well as artisans, potters and local producers.

Always be cautious and plan ahead when you're outdoors. Visorando and the author of this route cannot be held responsible for any accidents occurring on this route.
