Description of the walk

This route, from Flüelen to Morschach, corresponds to stage 3 and part of stage 4 of the Weg der Schweiz (No. 99).

The starting point for this stage is Flüelen SBB railway station.

Signposting: signposts with the No. 99 sticker on a green background (Weg der Schweiz).

(S) Leave the SBB station on the Lake Lucerne side. Pass the ferry terminal pontoon and follow the path along the lake. On leaving Flüelen, look for a hiking sign on a yellow background.

(1) Turn right and head towards a bridge over the railway line. Continue along the mouth of the Gruonbach stream as it flows into the lake. Descend towards the railway line and continue along a path with numerous ascending and descending steps. You will come out onto the cantonal road at the Zarenkopfgalerie.

(2) Turn left, follow the signs for No. 99 and continue along the undulating path until you reach the Glockenspiel de Tellsplatte (carillon with 37 bells)

(3) As indicated by sign No. 99, descend towards the Tellskapelle chapel by the lake. Pass the Tellsplatte jetty (ferry terminal). Continue along the lake shore and climb back up to the cantonal road at Rüteli.

(4) Take the small road that passes through several tunnels and overlooks the lake, and you will find another hiking sign.

(5) Continue alternating between ascents and descents towards the Granwegg and Herbizugegg rocks. Gradually descend towards the town of Sisikon until you reach a passage under the railway line.

(6) Turn right under the railway line and cross Sisikon until you reach signpost No. 99.

(7) Follow the Riemenstalder stream, cross it and arrive at a hairpin bend on the Untere Bitzimat road.

(8) At the sign, begin the very steep climb across a large meadow and return to Riemenstaldenstrasse. Cross the road and look for another sign No. 99.

(9) Continue climbing to the hamlet of Tannen, which offers a superb panorama.

(10) Staying on path No. 99, begin the descent towards Morschach. Descend to the hamlet of Franziskus and arrive at a fork in the road at a place called Laui.

(11) Take the small road on the left, pass the Riedmatt farm and continue to a small chapel.

(12) Pass the chapel and take the small path to join the track that leads to Mattli, your accommodation for the night (E).
