Description of the walk

Start from Klewenalp, the top station of the cable car linking this location with Beckenried.

(S/E) Upon exiting the cable car, head south-east along a wide white path. Ignore a path on the right, walk past the chalets on your right and arrive at a chapel.

(1) Then turn right and go straight on to quickly reach a crossroads at the foot of the ski lifts.

(2) Head diagonally right, due south. Soon head south-west and pass under a chairlift line, with the summit of Klewenstock on your left.

(3) Just before a crossroads at the foot of two buildings, turn left between a small fence and a gate. Go round the summit of Klewenstock, heading south-east then north-east. After a sharp left turn (north-east), you will soon reach a junction.

(4) Continue straight ahead, passing a restaurant on your right. Return to the junction you took at the start of the hike.

(2) Follow the same route back to the top cable car station (S/E).

Starting from Stansstad railway station, you go straight up above the motorway, thus tackling the steepest part. Then, along the ridge overview of the Alpnachersee lake for a good third of the way, glimpses of views and appreciating the 400-500m ascent: Probably a good time to rest for a lunch break before the Renggpass. The final part is downhill all the way to the village and train station of Hergiswil, passing through fields of cows, farms & green pasture.

A trip to the Rigi: depart from Arth-Goldau to Rigi Kulm by cogwheel train, then enjoy a scenic walk from Rigi Kulm to Wolfertschen-first. From there, you can take the train back to Krabel and ascend in a cable car to Rigi Scheidegg, or descend directly by train to Arth-Goldau.

A hike along the adventure trail through the beautiful Aa Gorge from Engelberg to Grafenort railway station. As the gorge is very shady, the route is perfect for hot summer days. Please note: One bridge on the route is currently destroyed (noted on 27 May 2026). A well-signposted diversion is in place, but this makes the hike around 100 m steeper and 2 km longer.
