Between land and sea, starting from Jullouville

Park on Avenue de la Poste; there are about ten parking spaces on the right

(S/E) Take the stony path to the left of the road.

Turn left to take the steps. Once at the top, turn left and head for the viewpoint overlooking the bay.

(1) Continue along the road and turn left very quickly. Carry on in the same direction and enter Bouillon. You will reach the village’s main road.

(2) First turn right then left onto Route de Carolles to join Route du Raineray. At the crossroads, cross over and continue straight on along Chemin de la Chevrue.
Pass the road leading to the new cemetery on your right and turn left onto Chemin des Carrouges, which leads onto Route de Saint-Pair; follow this to the right

Continue along this road until you reach La Carrière.

(3) Turn right onto Route de Vaumoisson and, at the crossroads, continue straight ahead.

Enter Vaumoisson.

(4) Keep to the right and continue due south. Turn right to cross a footbridge and enter Saint-Michel-des-Loups. Keep to the left. After the church, turn left then right onto the Route de la Croix des Bougonnières and reach the crossroads where this cross stands.

(5) Turn right onto the wide stony path and head south-west. Pass two crossroads and reach a three-way junction where two paths meet.

(6) Turn right onto the path on the right. As you enter Carolles, the path bends first to the right then to the left, ending up in front of the town hall. Turn left opposite the church.

(7) At the Place de la Mairie, first turn right then left onto Rue de la Poste. At the junction, turn right onto Rue de la Croix, which continues to the left of the fork via Rue Jacques Simon. Continue along this street, following it round a right-hand bend.

(8) On the left, head down Chemin du Lude then take a sharp left to follow the boardwalk. Walk alongside the Lude and continue to the right to cross a small bridge. Immediately ignore a path on the right and continue along the path that moves slightly away from the stream.

(9) At a fork, turn right to climb up a faintly marked path. It leads to a small service road which you should follow to the right. After a car park on the left, it continues as a dirt track which, after a left-hand bend, leads to one of the Vauban huts.

(10) Head due north along the cliffs to the Rocher du Sard. Take care on the descent via a winding natural staircase to rejoin the Lude.

(11) At the bottom, off the route, the path on the left leads to Lude Beach. Head right and turn left very quickly to climb up the other side. The path continues due north, overlooking the sea. You’ll reach an orientation table.

(12) Due west, on the horizon, you can make out the Roche de Herpin and the Pointe du Grouin with Cancale Bay, situated about 20 km away. This imaginary line marks the left boundary of Mont-Saint-Michel Bay
After admiring the long stretches of fine sandy beaches at Carolles and Jullouville, cross the car park and turn left. The path overlooks the whole of Jullouville to the left, then descends via a winding staircase to the Chemin des Pêcheurs. Turn right and cross the Route de la Plage.

(13) This is the Vallée des Peintres, which runs alongside the Crapeux. Turn right to head up towards the bridge. At the top of the path, turn left to cross the valley via the bridge and continue along this wide path known as the Costils du Pignon Butor. Pass the starting staircase on your right and return to the car park on Avenue de la Poste (S/E).

From (1) to (4), you will walk along small tarmac roads. After Carolles, the walk becomes much more challenging, offering magnificent views.
