(S) With your back to the campsite entrance, turn right onto Boulevard de l’Europe. Walk past the Dunkerque-Malo Hockey Club and, at the roundabout, continue straight ahead to the next roundabout, near the Centre Commercial du Méridien.
(1) Stay on Boulevard de l’Europe and, at the junction, head south-west along Avenue Kleber. Follow signs for the Kursaal Plage car park. Stay on this long avenue until you reach the Malo-les-Bains bandstand on Place Turenne.
(2) Cross this square, heading south-west, and continue along Avenue Faidherbe. Pass in front of Parc Malo and carry on to the bridge over the drainage canal.
(3) Turn left before the bridge to walk alongside the canal on your right, along Rue Godefroy d’Estrades. At the stop sign, continue straight on along Rue Boileau and follow the canal along the footpath. Walk on until you reach the Pont Emmery.
(4) Continue straight on towards the Stade des Flandres, pass the Stade Tribut, then cross the Pont de Rosendaël to the right to arrive in front of the Dunkirk fire station.
(5) Follow the drainage canal on your left, pass the Institution Notre-Dame des Dunes, and continue on to reach the Quatre Écluses embankment. Carry on to cross the Canal de Furnes, and arrive in front of the Canal de Bergues bridge, at the junction with Route de Furnes, opposite the Cuir Center shop.

(6) Cross carefully and continue left to cross the bridge, then turn right immediately after the bridge to walk along the footpath. Walk past a business, then cross the bridge over the Canal de Moëres. Turn left after the bridge and walk along this canal on the Chemin des Moëres, heading south-east. At the signpost near the bridge, continue straight on along Rue Béranger, then move away from the canal, passing in front of the Maison de la Mémoire. Continue to the roundabout.
(7) Continue straight ahead, heading south-east, along Rue Béranger. Cross the level crossing carefully and continue along Rue Ledru Rollin until you reach the traffic lights at the junction with Rue Victor Hugo.
(8) Carry on straight ahead, staying on Rue Ledru Rollin, then, at the Stop sign, take the small Rue de Provence opposite. Pass the Les Ch’herissons childcare centre, followed by the Georges Brassens Primary School, then follow the A16 motorway on your left until you reach the tunnel under the A16.
(9) Turn left to go under the motorway, then, on Rue Jean Monnet, head right to pass the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After the church car park, turn left onto Allée de l’Espoir, then head south-east until you reach the junction with Rue du Luxembourg. First turn right then left, then continue along Chemin du Bois des Forts. Pass the entrance to Ferme Vernaelde and continue to the junction with Allée des Alouettes.
(10) Turn left and, ignoring all the small side paths, stay on the avenue. Continue to the blockhouses and the junction with Rue des Sept Planètes.
(11) Cross carefully and continue straight ahead on theGR®® 120. Pass under a high-voltage power line and continue along the Allée de la Pépinière until you reach the junction with Rue du Fort Vallières.
(12) Turn left, then head right through the middle of a car park to continue into the Bois des Forts, along the Allée des Mésanges. Ignore the Allée du Fort Vallières and, at the next Fork in the road, continue south-east along the Allée des Éperviers. Carry on to the Fork in the road at the junction with a PR®®.
(13) Turn right onto Allée des Pics Verts, and continue along this path until you reach a large clearing, at the junction with Allée du Relais des Forts.
(14) Continue straight ahead along Allée des Loriots. At the Fork in the road, turn right onto Allée des Bergeronnettes, and continue to the bridge over the Canal de Coudekerque.
(15) Turn right after the bridge to follow the canal on your right, and continue to the bridge over the Canal de Coudekerque.
(16) Cross this bridge and continue south-east. Pass the Allée de la Ferme car park and continue along Allée de Bergues until the junction with Allée du Golf. Turn right to reach the Canal de Bergues.
(17) Turn left and follow the canal to the Canal du Roi car park.
(18) Head left and follow the Canal du Roi through the Vauban fortifications. Continue to the bridge and the Porte aux Boules at the entrance to Bergues.
(19) Pass through the Porte aux Boules, then onto Avenue Vauban; walk past the campsite before reaching the Pont de la Basse Colme. Note: If the campsite is where you’re staying, leave your belongings there .
(20) First turn left then right onto Route Fleurie (D3), and continue along the path at the foot of the ramparts. Pass the sewage treatment plant, and continue south-eastwards to Avenue de la Liberté.
(21) Take the steps opposite, then, after a few steps, head left onto Chemin de la Couronne Saint-Winoc along the ramparts. Go round the right-hand side of the Saint-Jean Retirement Home before reaching Avenue Félix Baert. Turn left, then, at the pedestrian crossing, head right to enter the Jardin du Groenberg. Continue to the Carrée Tower and the Pointed Tower, ancient remains of Saint-Winoc Abbey.
(22) Continue north-west to leave the park via the Porte de Marbre, and carry on along Rue des Annonciades, against the flow of traffic and slightly downhill. At the fork in the road, keep to the right-hand lane to pass in front of the Salle Emmanuel Looten, and continue along Rue Léon Claeys to Place de la Mairie and the Bergues Belfry, the end of the tour (E).
