At Col du Frêne (altitude 950m), park in the designated parking spaces.
(S/E) Cross the road, then cross the meadow for 20m.
(1) Turn right onto the slightly ascending path. After a large bend, the path leads to a small clearing. Continue until you see a small coniferous wood on the left, with your back to it.
(2) Head west to find a path that climbs into the woods.
A few bends further up, the path reaches the entrance to a pretty meadow with buildings: panoramic view of Trélod, Dent de Pleuven, Col de Chérel, Arcalod and Dent d'Arclusaz.
(3) Cross the meadow to pass above the buildings. Find a path, which will gradually become steeper over a few hundred metres; it will come out onto a large sloping meadow. Make a large circular loop to the edge of the woods opposite to return to the ridge (panoramic view). Mont Morbié is also in sight.
(4) Continue north-northwest (this will be the case until you reach the summit), cross a copse, pass a fence and take the path, which is quite steep in places. It winds through a sparse wood on a straight ridge. Along the way, you will pass some ruins that are difficult to make out under the snow.
A final steep climb brings you to the summit of Mont Morbier, at 1,542 metres.
(5) 360° panorama: Belledonne, Chartreuse, Gallopaz, Margeriaz, Grand Colombier...
Nearby is Mont Pela with its ski lifts and a picnic table.
(5) Return via the ascent route to the car park (S/E).
