From Chambéry, head to the Margeriaz ski resort.
Park at the back of car park No. 2.
(S) Go to the resort's snowshoe hike departure point.
Go around the start of the Ambruniers ski lift.
(1) Follow the marked Crêtes route (orange-red sign).
The route quickly leaves the ski slope behind as it enters the forest.
A little further up, it will lead to the mountain pasture near a small wooden cross located close to the "Les chalets de Margeriaz" sheepfold. During the winter season, this sheepfold is a small bar and restaurant.
(2) Continue along the path, following the markings and staying on the trail; the Margeriaz mountain is full of chasms, so there is no need to take any risks.
(3) Turn back at the 1695m point above the Alpages ski lift arrival point. In practice, you can continue along the ridge beyond this point, but due to the thick fog on 14/01/2013, the "caution" option was chosen.
(4) On the way back, turn off at the sign for Place à Baban. This is an unmarked trail that is rarely used by snowshoers and descends gently through the forest.
(5) Cross a track that is clearly used by sleds.
Shortly afterwards, you will come to a second track, also used by sledges. Follow it to the left, and it will join the resort's cross-country trails, which you can follow while respecting the space of the "cross-country skiers".
(6) Go through the tunnel under the D59A.
Follow the Les Fées trail, which will take you back to the resort and the car park (E).
