Park in the car park at the lower station of the Touvet funicular.
(S/E) From the Saint-Hilaire-du-Touvet funicular station, walk round to the left-hand side of the building and follow the tracks for a few metres before taking the path that climbs to the left (signposted ‘Château’). The slope is a little steep and slippery but doesn’t last long once you’ve passed the water tank. Go round it on the right.
You’ll soon reach the ruins of Montfort Castle, which feature some very fine remains and are currently being restored (autumn 2018). A barrier warns that the site is hazardous; if you go beyond it, please take care and be mindful of the work in progress.
(1) Return to the path, which continues through the woodland, occasionally offering views of the cliffs to the right or the valley to the left.
(2) At the junction, turn right and do not follow the path that goes downhill
After a few metres, you’ll come to a large rock on the right that seems to overhang the precipice, and the path continues down to the right. Both lead to a sort of small clearing surrounding a few trees. Carry straight on along the main path, ignoring the track that descends to the left.
(3) Carry on until you reach a wider track.
(4) Take it to the left; after thefirst hairpin bend, you’ll come to asecond one.
(5) Leave the wide path and continue straight ahead onto the track that runs along the hillside. Here you’ll come to a junction of tracks marked on the IGN map
(6) Take care here: the path does indeed descend to join, further down, the one that climbs directly to the Crolles waterfall. Follow the route described in this guide carefully (the path is visible on the OpenStreetMap). You’ll arrive at the foot of the path leading up to the Crolles waterfall.
(7) Return via the same route to reach the car park where you started (S/E).
