The description starts from the upper funicular station, which can be reached by road, but also in fine weather by the funicular itself, which can add extra interest to this short outing.
(S/E) From the station, walk up the street towards the main road, follow it for 60 metres to the right, then turn right to pass behind the tourist office chalet. Climb up the Chemin dit de la Chapelle, pass above the southern paragliding take-off area and reach the chapel.
(1) Leave the path on the left for the return trip and descend via the path on the right. This is a well-marked and clear ridge path offering views of the Grésivaudan Valley and the Belledonne mountain range opposite.
Enter the forest, where the path becomes a trail. The route continues along the edge of the cliff (take care when viewing the landscape between the trees). The yellow and redGRP® markings are also more visible and more frequent. In the forest, information boards provide details about the wildlife and local history.
After a circular in the forest, you will reach Les Dioux (895 m).
(2) Continue to the right towards Moulin de Porte Traine, which you will reach after crossing a footbridge. This peaceful spot is surrounded by old stones on the banks of the stream and is the lowest point of the hike.
Leave theGRP® trail towards Col de Marcieu, cross the footbridge again and climb to the right along the yellow-marked path towards the waterfall. On the way up, leave the path for a round trip to the waterfall, then continue climbing and leave the forest.
(3) When you leave the forest, turn right onto the Chemin pour les Massards and head towards "Les Vials" and "Les Gaudes." You will rejoin the road when you reach the first houses and the next crossroads, "Les Vials"
(4) Turn left to leave the hamlet and continue along the path. Walk for 500 metres.
(5) Turn right. Continue along this path, admiring the Dent de Crolles, and you will come to the chapel
(1) Descend towards the funicular (S/E).
