Double circular from Foupeysson to Mont Pinay

A hike of less than 3 hours, without any major difficulties. Around Mont Pinay, the ascent and descent are a little steeper. Mostly in the woods, with more open passages and views of the surrounding landscapes of the Beaujolais Vert.

This is a longer version of the "Circular in the Foupeysson forest, at the foot of Mont Pinay" route.

Note: part of the route, from the hamlet of Les Rousselles to Mont Pinay and Les Petites Fayes, is on tarmac, but these are small roads with very little traffic.

Description of the walk

From La Ville, climb towards Cimes de Cours and Foupeysson. Park at the first large crossroads in the Foupeysson forest.

(S/E) Follow the GR®765 trail to the north-east, marked in white and red, which climbs gently to reach the Blue Cross crossroads.

(1) Continue straight ahead on the tarmac road, after passing an isolated house, to reach Mont Pinay.

(2) At the Mont Pinay crossroads, take the GR®765 trail on the left towards Col des Ecorbans for 100 metres and, at the fork, continue straight ahead until you reach another fork.

(3) Continue to the left, leaving the GR®765 North on your right, and continue for a few hundred metres through the forest.

(4) Turn right onto an uphill path. You will pass close to the summit of Mont Pinay (883 m). The path then descends towards the Rousselles forest crossroads.

(5) Cross the GR®765 and continue slightly to the right on the steeply descending path, which is marked with multiple crosses. Cross the hamlet of Les Rousselles and continue along the small asphalt road. Join a larger road and return to the Mont Pinay crossroads.

(2) Take the road on the left towards La Luire and Les Petites Fayes.

(6) At the first fork, continue straight ahead towards the hamlet of Les Petites Fayes, leaving La Luire and Les Grandes Fayes on your right.

(7) At the bottom of the descent, turn right, then soon after, right again. After a solitary house, the tarmac gives way to grass. Follow the path and cross a stream (often dry). Take the path that climbs to the left. Continue and you will soon reach a road.

(8) Continue left on the road to soon reach the hamlet of Grandes Fayes (isolated house).

(9) Turn 90° onto the path on the left. Continue climbing through the woods and, via a circular loop on the right, return to the car park in the Foupeysson forest (S/E).
