(S/E) Start at the south-west corner of Place Stanislas, next to the Tourist Office, and take Rue des Dominicains southwards. Turn left onto Rue Saint Georges and continue to Notre-Dame de l’Annonciation Cathedral.
(1) Continue straight on along this same street. Cross Rue de l’Île de Corse, then Esplanade du Capitaine Dreyfus and, finally, Quai Sainte-Catherine, until you reach the Marne-Rhine Canal.
(2) Follow it to the left until you reach a drawbridge, then follow Rue Henri Bazin to the left. Pass through Porte Sainte-Catherine and continue along the street of the same name. Further on, turn left into Rue Codron, then Rue Giradet, until you reach Place d’Alliance.
(3) Take Rue Guibal on the right until you reach Rue Sainte-Catherine, which leads you, on the left, to Place Stanislas. Then head for Porte Héré, clearly visible on the north side of the square.
(4) Go through the gate and cross Place de la Carrière to the Government Palace opposite.
(5) Turn right and enter the Parc de la Pépinière. Turn left at the third wide path to reach the zoo.
(6) Walk around the zoo, leaving the rose garden on your left. Continue in the same direction to exit through a small gate leading to Rue Jacquot, which you follow to the Grande Rue. Turn right and head towards the Porte de la Craffe.
(7) Go through the gate and continue straight on to the Porte de la Citadelle. Turn left once into Rue Henri Deglin, then left again into Boulevard Charles V. When you reach Place du Luxembourg, turn right into Rue des Glacis, then left 50 metres further on.
(8) Pass under the Mémorial Désilles, then turn left into Rue du Haut Bourgeois, and take the first right into Rue des Loups. Continue along Rue Montseigneur Trouillet until you reach Place Sainte-Epvre and the basilica of the same name.
(9) Go round the basilica via Rue Pierre Gringoire and continue until you reach Grande Rue, which you take to the right. Finally, turn right into Rue des Maréchaux, then left into Rue d’Amerval and, to finish, left again into Rue Gambetta to arrive at Place Stanislas (S/E).
A lovely, short and peaceful stroll... streets with hardly any cars... unexpected and very quiet spots... stunning architecture... very few people, really... and the unrivalled Place Stanislas!... definitely worth a visit...
