From Villiers-Saint-Frédéric to Feucherolles

This stage is the last of the old GR®1 route. The departure point is at Villiers-Saint-Frédéric, at the RER station. The entire route is rural. It passes through several villages, including Saint-Germain-la-Grange, Thiverval-Grignon and Davron. There are two notable churches: those of Davron and Thiverval-Grignon, not to mention Feucherolles. This is an undemanding section that allows you to finish the GR®1 at a leisurely pace.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: GR®1: Tour of Île-de-France

Description of the walk

Start the hike at the Villiers-Saint-Frédéric RER station.

No markings

(S) Leave the station with it on your left, then turn left up Rue de la Gare. At the level crossing, cross the railway line. Continue along the tracks, turning immediately right until you reach the bridge.

(1) Go under the bridge and keep left until you reach the road. Go down this road and take the first path on the right. At the Y-junction, go left. Ignore one crossroads and continue to another at the power lines in a place called Les Soixantes.

(2) Keep going straight ahead and stay on the same path at the next intersection. Cross a road at Champ Cornu to reach a crossroads near Chatron.

(3) Descend to the left. Ignore a fork and reach a road.

(4) At this point, the IGN maps are out of date. To follow the GR® properly, turn left towards Saint-Germain-de-la-Grange. At the first crossroads, turn right down Rue de Thiverval. Cross the railway line and you will reach the Parc d'Activités de la Vallée Yart.

(5) Turn right onto the street of the same name. Continue straight ahead until you reach the roundabout. Then take the only exit opposite the roundabout to follow a track. Next, cross a second railway line, keeping to the left.

(6) Immediately after this, turn right onto a path that crosses the Ru Maldroit before crossing a road at Carrière Blanche.

(7) Go straight ahead and take the path uphill. Ignore a junction on the right and continue to the main road.

(8) Cross carefully at the roundabout and take the exit on the other side. Continue along the same road until you reach the church in Thiverval-Grignon.

White and red GR®1 markings

(9) Follow Grande Rue straight ahead. Keep right at each junction until you reach the meadows. Then continue straight ahead until you reach a gate.

(10) Turn right at a right angle. Then continue straight ahead until you reach Davron church.

(11) At the church, take the street closest to it (Rue de Wideville). At the crossroads, turn left, then left again at the next one to take Rue de Bullion. Follow this street until you reach the main road.

(12) Cross carefully and continue straight ahead on a track that gradually climbs. You will reach a crossroads in the woods at the top of a hill.

(13) Turn right. Join a wider track that branches off to the right, before turning left at the crossroads to cross a bridge. Then continue straight on to the church in Feucherolles. Go around the church on the right to reach Grande Rue. This is where the GR®1 officially ends. To reach the bus stop, as suggested by this hike, turn left onto Grande Rue and walk up to the "Mairie" bus stop (E).

Hello, I did this hike today, pushing on from Feucherolles to St-Nom la Bretèche station via a route parallel (and slightly more direct) to the GR1 through the Marly forest. 24 km in total!

I wanted to share something that seems important to me: I didn't see any GR markers on the route I took at the beginning of the stage (even though I had already done it a few years ago and the markers were there), which surprised me! I only found them again in Thiverval, at a signpost indicating a right turn (from the point of view of a hiker coming in the opposite direction), at the Croix Bossée shortly before point 9 on a path leading straight to Beynes!

According to the information available, it seems that the GR route has indeed been changed here: when walking in the opposite direction from Thiverval, the GR now heads due west towards Beynes (with a possible stop at the station), then crosses the valley, climbs into the forest and joins the GR 11, which it follows as a common route to the Villiers-Neauphle-Pontchartrain station (and even beyond, as was already the case).

This seems to me to be an excellent initiative on the part of the FFR 78, as the original route is not very exciting here (going around the golf course built on landfill embankments and passing close to industrial areas, etc.). The route is longer but allows for an extra stop, so it's a win-win situation!
