Description of the walk

Start from the town hall car park, Chemin du Saint-Sacrement.

(S/E) From the car park, return to the D13 (Route de Chevreuse) and follow it to the left. At a Fork in the road, continue to the right on the D13. At the next junction (cross), turn right onto the Route de la Garenne.

(1) After about a hundred metres, leave the road and take a path on the left. Walk alongside a wood on the left, continue between two fields and pass under a power line. Continue along the edge of a property on the right. Cross the D191 carefully and continue straight ahead onto Chemin de l’Hirondelle.

(2) At the end, turn right onto Rue de l’Hirondelle. Go straight on, ignoring the street on your right (Rue de la Mairie); at the end, turn right. Join the D91, follow it carefully, and pass in front of the Château de Mareil-le-Guyon.

(3) When the D91 turns left, leave it and continue straight on along a small road, following theGR®®11(red and white markings). After about 150 m, take the first path on the left, leaving some sheds on your right. Further on, ignore a path coming from the left and reach a Fork in the road just before a power line.

(4) : Then take the path furthest to the left and leave theGR®®. Walk alongside the Étang de Bazoches and cross the D23. Continue straight on, walk alongside a cemetery and join the D13.

(5) Cross the road carefully and follow a path slightly to the right (the Chemin de l’Évêché). Initially, this path (which is wide enough for a vehicle) climbs. At a narrowing, turn left at a 90° angle. Continue through the woods, south-south-west. Ignore the paths coming from the right and continue south.

(6) At the 171-metre mark, take a path on the right. At the various junctions, go straight on. Pass by the foot of the Rocher Marquant on the right and note the Louis Carré house on the left. At the end of the path, turn left and you will immediately find the entrance to the Jean Monnet Museum (open all year round) on the right and the entrance to the Louis Carré Museum (open seasonally) on the left.

(7) Walk down the street (Chemin du Vieux Pressoir). At the small car park on the left, take the road on the left. After about 50 metres, at the Fork in the road, turn left (the other road will be below) and continue until you find a path on your right.

(8) Take the path on the right, go downhill and cross the Ruisseau Guyon via a wooden footbridge. Go back up the other side. You’ll come out onto another path; follow it to the left. Opposite a house, at a place called L’Aunay Rogrin, continue along the path which turns right. Ignore the paths branching off to the right and pass under a power line.

(9) Cross the road and continue along the small road opposite. After about 300 m, take the path on the right and head up into a wood. Then ignore the paths on the left and right until you reach a road (Rue du Coteau), which you take on your left.

(10) When you reach the crossroads, take thesecond street on the right (Rue au Bouet). Continue along this street until you reach a three-way junction and take the left-hand street (Rue de la Borne). Go straight on until you reach a T-junction and turn right. Then ignore the street on the right (Rue Chenotel).

(11) Enter the park on the left. Pass a tennis court on your left, join the D191 and follow the road alongside the château on your right.

(12) At the corner of the château, turn right onto Rue du Moulin. Note the wash house and the superb Moulin residence on your left. Continue along this road and pass through the hamlet known as Le Jardin.

(13) At the T-junction, turn left. Pass several houses on your left until you see a pony club.

(14) Just before the pony club, take a path on the right. Follow the Brûlins stream for about 1 km.

(15) At the end, turn right and follow theGR®®1. Pass the Carrefour des Brûlins, follow a cycle path and reach a car park. Walk along the right-hand side of the car park and continue along the access road. At the edge of the Étang de la Plaine, leave the road and take a path on the left that goes round the pond on the right (still on theGR®®). At the end of the pond, at a Fork in the road, continue straight on with the GR®®.

(16) At the crossroads, take Rue du Château Gaillard straight ahead. Ignore a street on the left, turn right and head down to Rue de Sance, which you should follow to the right.

(17) After crossing a street on the right, climb the steps on the left (still on theGR®®). Reach Rue Maurice Ravel and follow it to the left. After about a hundred metres, take the steps on the right to climb up to the Tour d’Anne de Bretagne (magnificent view).

(18) Go down the other side to reach Rue Saint-Laurent, which you should follow to the left. On this street, after passing through the Porte Bardoul, go down the steps on the right. Then, turn right onto Rue des Fosses and walk alongside the cemetery on your left. At the end, turn right and then left to reach the church.

(19) Leave the church on your right and take Rue de Dion. Walk past the Hôtel Saint-Laurent on Place Lebreton. Reach Rue de la Moutière and follow it to the right.

(20) At the end, take Rue Christian Hazard on the left. After about 150 m, turn right onto a path between the Ernest May stadium on the right and the wall of the Château de Groussay park on the left. Turn left with the path and, after passing a sewage treatment plant, reach a T-junction.

(21) Then turn right and head east-southeast between the fields. Ignore a path branching off to the left and, at the next junction (marker 107), continue straight ahead. Pass under a power line, ignore a path branching off to the left and arrive at the D191 (garage on the left). Cross the D191 carefully and continue along a small road opposite. Take the first path on the left (marker 95). After a bend to the right, go straight on (north-east). You will come out onto a road; follow it to the left. At the Fork in the road, turn right. After 200 m, rejoin the D13 and follow it to the right to the car park (S/E).

A superb route with some lovely discoveries! It takes you through plains, woods and villages, making for a varied hike with plenty of elevation gain. You certainly won’t get bored. It’s very damp and the ground is sometimes slippery due to the heavy rain over the last few days, so make sure you wear suitable footwear for the season.
I hope the forest managers will repair the damaged paths as they’re impassable at this time of year 😠; you can walk alongside the paths if necessary.
I loved this hike, THANK YOU for the route!

I went on this walk yesterday. It was lovely. There was a bit of mud, given the rain we’ve had over the last few days. The climb along the Ruisseau des Brûlins is enchanting. It’s a shame we have to walk along roads so often. Thank you

A walk taken on a lovely spring’s day, which was a bit chilly in the morning.
A rich heritage and pleasant scenery.
After a 16 km walk, the climb up to the Anne de Bretagne tower isn’t the easiest, but the view is well worth the effort.
Two points to note:
- at the start, it is not a cross but a small wayside shrine that is located before Rue de la Garenne
- at point 6, the path on the right is signposted GR Monnet.
For your information, there are two picnic tables and benches in the grounds of the Jean Monnet House.
