From Saint-Éloi to the Pergat Menhir, returning along the banks of the Guindy

There is virtually no elevation gain on this route, which follows small forest paths alongside a river and stream, allowing you to enjoy the sound of the water and the birdsong.
There is no answer to the mystery of the menhirs when faced with this colossus weighing several tonnes, which has stood in this small clearing for over 5,000 years.

Description of the walk

Car park: Village square in Saint-Éloi.

(S/E) Leave the car park heading towards the church. The street runs due south and then turns south-east.
Leave the D31 by taking the tarmac path on the left and continue along it.

(1) Turn right onto a grassy path lined with trees which does not appear on IGN maps. It leads to another path which ends at the D31.
Cross the main road and continue straight ahead (2nd path not shown on maps). It runs alongside the railway line towards the west. Like the previous one, it continues along a better-maintained path that leads to a road.

(2) Turn left, go under the railway bridge and turn left immediately. Follow this road until you reach the D31, which you should take on the right.
Continue along this road, which heads almost due south. Ignore the road on the left leading to Les Quatre-Vents and continue for a further 200m.

(3) Turn left onto the access path to the Pergat Menhir (signposted). This is 200m further on. Continue east-southeast along the path which runs alongside a pretty little stream, heading southeast. The path becomes more passable and turns east before reaching a group of houses and the D15 road.

(4) Take the D15 to the left. Follow it for almost a kilometre.

(5) After the last houses, turn left. At a left-hand bend, take the road on the right then continue on the left, passing the start of a path on the right. Continue along this road, which ends at the railway line.
Turn right, follow the railway line and cross it via the bridge on the left. After the bridge, turn left.

(6) Take the road on the right, then after 120m, at the fork, follow the path on the left. Just before the stream, take the path on the left (not shown on maps).
From here, follow the yellow markings as the path runs alongside the Guindy, a picturesque little river in the Trégor.

(7) Follow the yellow markings carefully, taking two hairpin bends to the right and then to the left, before crossing the river and continuing to the left.

(8) Leave the yellow markings and take the path on the left leading to Guinisicoat.
Continue along this road. Go straight on at the first junction, ignore a road on the right and then another on the left, go straight on at the second junction to reach the village car park (S/E).

A superb route, very pleasant through the woodland and along small streams; there’s a bit of tarmac, but the roads are mainly quiet. We discovered little hamlets with pretty granite houses, very well maintained and adorned with flowers. We set off on the walk around 10 am and had a light picnic at the PERGAT menhir.
Note: check in April for the dates of the signposted mountain bike routes in aid of cystic fibrosis.

We’ve just done this walk; the sections along the river are lovely – no traffic noise, and no trouble finding our way thanks to the app. The tarmac sections aren’t as pleasant, but they’re just small roads so it’s fine. Some sections are quite muddy, but it’s winter so that’s to be expected, and nothing you can’t get through with good shoes. Of course, the highlight of this walk is passing by the Pergat menhir – you’ve got to see it, it’s enormous (see photo). Being able to park at the start in Saint Eloi is really handy. I’ll definitely do it again in the summer; it’s a pleasant walk and not far from home.

We chose this walk to enjoy the sunshine whilst staying out of the wind. Mission accomplished!
No trouble finding your way. The walk is very well described. It alternates between open paths and others that are very winding. There are also sections of tarmac, but on very narrow roads... the paths that follow the streams are superb, and truly in the heart of nature.
The estimated time is a bit generous. With a short break, it took us 3 hours and 10 minutes.
We highly recommend this lovely walk.
Note that there are a few shops at the start in Saint Eloi.

A lovely walk along the water's edge and along the paths (which aren't too damp).
I recommend it for its charm and interest.
