(S/E) Park either alongside the inn or alongside the church. In both cases, stand with your back to the front of the church and set off to the right (north). Quickly descend to the left towards Notre-Dame-de-la-Salette. As you pass, admire the charming chapel perched on its hilltop. Continue along the small road that descends into the valley. At a fork, take the left (Chemin du Châtelard). A little further on, you will see a pond on your right, below you.
(1) Your small road turns right towards a solid building. Leave it and continue opposite on a stony path. You will come to a T-junction. Take the grassy path on the right. You will quickly pass two settling basins. Turn into the first path on the right (at the top of a small hill).
(2) You come out onto a small road. You will see a sign for "Trémolé - alt. 278m". Turn left and very quickly take the grassy path on the right between a small wood and a field. Your path turns 90° to the left. Immediately after, turn right. You will come to a small road (there is a damaged signpost indicating only "0.9km" and two signs with the numbers "1297/1295"). Continue on the left.
(3) You will arrive at a crossroads (sign for Blache Tarrot - altitude 300m). Go downhill opposite, towards Montagne. You will arrive at a T-junction (sign for "Route de la Muronnière") where you turn left.
(4) Very quickly, you will reach the sign for "Les Muronnières - alt. 270m". Take the path on the right towards Montagne/Deruine. The path seems to disappear, but there is a barn on the right. You can see the path leading towards it on the left. A yellow sign confirms that you are on the right track. The path is now clearer. Ignore the path that branches off to the right.
(5) You will come to a road. You will see the sign for "Deruine - alt. 380 m". Take the grassy path through the walnut trees on the right (towards Montagne). Shortly afterwards, continue along this path, which narrows and becomes steep. You cross a small road. Then a second one. There, you go up to the right of the house. Very quickly you come out onto the departmental road. Cross it diagonally to the left to go up a small lane. Opposite you is a gate. When you reach it, turn right.
(6) You will arrive in the village of Montagne (sign for Saint-Bonnet on the left and right). Enter the village. Take the first lane on the left and go around the church. Its carved stone bell tower is interesting. Back on the main road, turn left. Below the road, you will see the cemetery (there is a water point in the centre, at the foot of a large cross). There is another water point 200 metres further along the route. At the exit of the village, there is a rest area with a water point and an orientation table. (When I passed by, the toilets were not in a very good condition...). Continue along the departmental road. Be careful! There is no pavement and the verge is very narrow. This only lasts for 100 metres, but be careful: walk on the left-hand side of the road, in single file.
(7) You will arrive at the sign for "La Croix Rouge - alt. 450m". Take the small road that descends to the right (towards "Bois des Mothé"). Pass two paths on the right that lead to a house.
(8) At the next fork, leave the tarmac road and take the dirt track on the left (signposted "Bois des Mothé - alt. 430m"). You will come to a large farm building, which you go around on the left. Continue along the track, ignoring the small road that joins from the left.
(9) You will come to a sign for "En Perey - alt. 331 m". Turn right. You will come to a road, which you take on the right. Ignore the road on the left that leads to a farm.
(10) Turn left (on your left you will see a long building where poultry must be kept). Pass a cave at the corner of an alley on the left. Pass a marshy area (with reeds visible). Immediately after, your road turns right. Take the path on the left. After a while, you will see patches of old tarmac on the ground. Immediately after, turn right.
(11) You come out onto a road at a large stone cross. You will see the sign "Croix de Chavaux - alt. 311 m". Turn right. Very quickly, you will come to a crossroads. Opposite, take the discreet dirt track that climbs up the hill. You will come to a narrow lane (signposted "Chemin des Sables"). Turn right and follow it downhill to your starting point (S/E).
