(S/E) Leave the long car park behind Chatte church and head west. Turn north onto Chemin des Martinons. This will quickly take you to the cemetery. At the chapel (water and toilets), turn left onto Chemin de la Galicière (west). You will soon come to an old factory.
(1) This is the former Galicière silk factory (information boards). At the corner of the silk factory, take the path on the left. You will come out onto the Route de Saint-Antoine (D27 - sign for "Saint-Just"), which you take to the right towards Sainte-Philomène.
Very soon, you will leave the D27 and turn left onto Chemin de Montchatel. The road climbs quite steeply. At the second hairpin bend, head towards the gravel car park and continue along a forest track that climbs steadily and regularly.
On a sort of plateau, turn right (sign on the ground). You will come to a signpost for "Sainte-Philomène".
(2) Don't go up the stairs straight away. First, walk 800 metres to the left and back to the Sainte-Philomène chapel.
(3) Enjoy the view, the orientation table and, if you like, the picnic tables. Return to the "Sainte-Philomène" sign.
(2) Take the wooden steps on the left. At the top of the steps, turn left.
When your path starts to descend steeply, take another, much smaller path on the right.
This will take you to the Croix des Ports (where you will not, of course, find any ports... but a vague wooden cross).
(4) Continue past the water reservoir on your right. Go downhill. Pass a crossroads and continue straight ahead.
When you reach a T-junction, turn right. Continue for a while until you reach another T-junction, where you turn left and very quickly come out onto the D27.
(5) Turn right.
Be careful at this point, as cars drive fast and the roadside is narrow. It is advisable to walk on the left-hand side of the road so you can see vehicles coming.
After 300 metres, turn off onto the small road that branches off at a 45° angle to the left
(6) This is the old tramway that connected Lyon to Saint-Marcellin. It climbs gently. After a while, the tarmac gives way to a gravel surface.
(7) At the end of the valley, the track makes a wide hairpin bend, a clear sign of the former railway line. At the end of the valley, you will come to a walnut grove. Your path crosses a very small asphalt road. Take this road on your right. Very quickly, you will come to a crossroads where you turn left onto the Chemin de la Chapelle Saint-Pierre (signposted).
When you come to a path on your right, ignore it and keep a close eye on your left. You will see a small mound. You can make out a vague path. Take it to arrive directly at the chapel, hidden behind a grove. Take the time to admire its simplicity, enhanced by its cypress tree.
(8) Leave the path and take the path on the left that heads north-west and runs alongside the plot, which will take you to the Saint-Pierre chapel (with the owners' permission).
(9) Leave the Saint-Pierre Chapel and continue west along the path. At the end of the plot, turn right, go behind the property and you will reach a wide path.
(10) Turn right, then left towards "Jacquemont". Very quickly, you will leave the track that leads to a house and ignore the path that branches off to the right to continue straight ahead (yellow markings).
(11) You will come out into a walnut grove, then onto a small paved road. Turn right. Your road gives way to a grassy path that blends in with the fields on either side. Continue and enter the forest. Follow the path, ignoring any paths that branch off to the right or left. Stay on the main path throughout the forest, following the discreet but visible yellow markings.
(12) You will pass a sign for "Jacquemont". Continue straight ahead towards "Chatte".
(13) At the edge of the woods, the path turns left on its own. You will come to a T-junction. Turn right. Your path descends into the valley and turns left on its own.
(14) Once in the valley, you will come to a crossroads (signposted "Fond Cotte").
Turn right to return to the Chatte cemetery, then to your car park (S/E).
