From Chauveroche to the Plain des Joncs through the Beucinière Forest

This moderate-difficulty walk begins gently on the southern and then western slopes of the Lepuix-Malvaux valley. It follows the forest road for much of the way both out and back, offering fine views of the various surrounding hamlets and hills. The forest also offers various points of interest thanks to the majesty of its tall deciduous and coniferous trees; it is light and welcoming.

Description of the walk

Park in the free car park by the two small ponds.

(S/E) Head towards the Saint-Benoît Priory by following Rue de Chauvaroche. Carry straight on, passing another small car park on your left.

(1) Turn right to join the forest road and then turn right again to follow it, taking a wide left-hand bend. You will reach a crossroads.

(2) Leave the forest road and take the path on the left, following the Green Ring markings. The gradient becomes much steeper.

(3) Continue straight on, climbing steadily, until you reach a three-way junction at Plain des Joncs.

(4) Keep left, following the Green Ring, join a Green Triangle path coming from the left and follow it straight on for a good hundred metres.

(5) At the crossroads, start the return journey by turning right to follow the Green Triangle-marked path towards Lepuix.

(6) Turn left to stay on the marked trail, following the path as it winds before coming out onto a forest track.

(7) Turn left onto it until you reach the hairpin bend.

(8) Leave the Green Triangle trail, which heads off to the left, and stay on the forest track. You’ll reach a junction situated almost at the entrance to the vast open space that is home to the hamlet of La Côte.

(9) Continue straight on and return to the starting point of the Green Ring path taken on the way up.

(2) Stay on the forest road and retrace your steps to return to the car park (S/E).
