Description of the walk

From Val d'Allos le Village, head towards Val d'Allos la Foux.
The route starts from the car park in the hamlet of La Baumelle on the left.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, follow the B-road to the left until you reach the junction leading to the hamlet of La Baume.

(1) Continue to your right towards the hamlets of La Baume and Les Gays. Keep to the right until you reach the road and the hamlet of Les Gays.

(2) Cross the road, turn left for a few metres, then head down to the right, and quickly left onto a dirt track leading to the Verdon.

(3) Cross the river via a wooden bridge and continue on to the Valboyère shepherd’s hut.

(4) Continue the hike through the Bois Noir forest. On leaving the woods, head towards the Mable shepherd’s hut and the small pass hut.

(5) Continue along the path, cross the Ravin de Valdemars and proceed to the next junction, near a ford.

(6) Before the ford, keep left to return to the starting point in the hamlet of La Baumelle, keeping to the right throughout. In the hamlet, keep left all the way to the chapel.

(7) Take a short break before arriving at Notre-Dame des Lumières, a chapel built at the end of the17th century. Then return to the starting point (S/E).

Bring drinking water and a packed lunch.
At certain times of the year, a herd is present in these pastures.

Worth a visit

In summer, take the time to stop off at the village of Allos with its bars and restaurants.
For activities, enjoy the leisure park, archery, tennis, riding centre and paragliding.
And, of course, plenty of other hiking trails.

A very pleasant hike with magnificent autumn colours. No difficulty finding your way. There was a flock of sheep nearby, so the dogs came to "sniff" us, but they weren't aggressive. They were just doing their job!!!

beautiful hike, interesting encounter with a herd and shepherds. The dogs are not aggressive; they are just doing their job. I had trouble finding the trail after the sheepfold and the hut, but it wasn't a big deal. I extended my hike with a quick swim in a hole in the Verdon just before arriving.

A lovely walk. Plenty of shade, with a good portion of the route through woodland. Download the route before you set off to avoid going round in circles. It’s tricky to find your way around near the sheepfold. There are a few flocks of sheep at this time of year.

A really lovely walk, apart from the start on the road.
We were a bit unsure at the very start before crossing the road again. After that, it was easy to follow the path and the scenery is very varied.
Thank you

A lovely half-day hike, with plenty of streams, waterfalls and pools – it’s very pleasant; the route is mainly through woodland; there are some lovely views from the small pass. At the start of the walk, we tried to avoid the road and followed a path which is quite nice but crosses private property (running along the bottom of the road), so… probably best avoided next time. There are some lovely spots for a picnic, either before the first hamlet, at the small pass, or along the riverbank. It’s a bit of a climb but nothing too strenuous.
