On leaving the town of Apt heading east, take the Route de Digne, passing the secondary school, then the coach station and the Intermarché. Continue for about 200 m and, after a wide bend, park in the car park of the “La Madeleine” retirement home on the left-hand side of the D900.
(S/E) Cross the road and take the small Rue Broet opposite, which ends in a cul-de-sac at the Rimayon gardens. The road continues as a path that runs straight on along the allotments.
(1) Turn left, skirting a field, then at the end of the path, turn right in front of the Château de Peyrolles. Walk alongside the Peyrolles estate and take the small road on the left. You will pass the château’s entrance gate. Continue to the end of the road.
(2) Take the path on the left which winds its way up through the forest in wide bends until you reach a junction with a track. Follow the track to the right and continue along it until you reach the crossroads with the road. Take the road to the right, continue along this road, taking a sharp bend, until you reach thefirst fork.
(3) Take the left-hand fork, go round a large bend and, at thesecond bend leading to an estate, leave the road and continue straight on along the path. Follow this lovely path to the next junction.
(4) Turn onto the path on the left at a right angle, which climbs up to the village of Saignon. Take the village road on the right, then enter the village by climbing up the narrow streets, going round the deconsecrated chapel and the old castle to reach the rock. Climb to the top of the rock where the orientation table is located.
(5) At the top of the Saignon rock, you can enjoy a 360° view of the Lure mountain, the old village, the Luberon, Apt and the Ventoux. Head back down the same way, then walk down into the village to the fountain.
(6) At the fountain, turn left onto Rue du Bourget. At the end of the tarmac, continue for a few metres then take the path on the right. At the next junction, veer left, then continue straight on until you reach a road. Follow it down to the left until you reach the junction at the end of Route de l’Abbaye.
(7) Continue to the right (D174), towards the RD900. Pass the hamlet of Béranger, then the two bends in the road, and reach Chemin de Fond de Montagne on the left.
(8) Follow this; the road ends and continues as a footpath. Carry on to the first junction on the right.
(9) Turn right and continue straight on, ignoring thefirst fork on the right and then the one on the left, until you reach a crossroads with four paths. Take thesecond path on the left and follow it straight on, ignoring thefirst fork on the right and then thesecond on the left.
(10) Take thethird path on the left, which continues straight on to Chemin de la Ginestière. Turn right and follow this path straight on to the junction with Chemin de la Ginestière. Follow this small road to the next junction and take the first path on the left.
(11) Follow this path straight on, ignoring the turnings to the right and left. The path joins the Chemin des Imbardes, a small road which you follow straight on. Walk through the hamlet of La Madeleine, continuing straight on until you reach the D900. Take the D900 on the left until you reach the La Madeleine car park. Cross the road and head to the car park (S/E).
