Description of the walk

Park in the free car park in Saignon.

(S/E) Head south along theGR®92, marked in red and white, to the junction with the Sentier de la Chapelle Saint-Pierre.

(1) Leave theGR®92, cross the road, take the path on the left and follow it to a three-way junction.

(2) Turn right and continue along the path cutting through the woods to reach the road further up, which you cross, and you’ll soon arrive at a track.

(3) Turn left, then ignore the access to a house on the right (Les Plaines). Continue straight on, then follow a path to reach a bend in a track. Follow it to the right and reach a three-way junction.

(4) Keep to the right, then ignore the entrance to the house and carry on straight ahead. Then turn left, heading towards the Chapelle Saint-Pierre, which can be seen on the hilltop. Reach it and enjoy a magnificent view; also note the castle currently undergoing restoration.

(5) From the castle, go down the stairs and take the stony path on the left. The descent is quite steep down to the car park, the L. Peysson area, situated above the village of Auribeau.

(6) At the foot of this car park, turn right onto the path which climbs quite steeply. At the 685m mark, turn left to reach a junction towards Marauviére.

(7) Head back down towards Marauviére, avoiding the path on the right that climbs towards Mourre Négre.

(8) At the Marauviére junction, turn right and then climb back up to the highest point of this path.

(9) At this junction, veer left to continue along the ridge, avoiding the path that leads down.

(10) Please note: just before the end of this ridge, a sort of path descends directly towards the valley floor. Do not take it as it is very, very steep. Continue to the end of the ridge. Begin an easier descent towards the small village of Le Castellet, which is also very pretty.

(11) Cross the village and follow the road for a short distance (about 400m) towards Saignon. Reach the Bois des Meuniers.

(12) At the start of the Bois des Meuniers, take a small path on the right which leads to the small spring with a pool at a place called l’Anadare.

(13) Return to the path that runs alongside the river to the Les Fringants car park and join a small tarmac road.

(14) Continue towards Saint-Eusèbe Abbey and walk for about 1.5 km to reach it.

(15) Then continue straight on, cross Saignon and arrive at the starting car park (S/E).

Notes

(S/E) I recommend taking a short look around this pretty village before setting off on this lovely walk through oak trees, young oaks, boxwood and lavender fields.

(9) Picnic spot.

(13) There is a water source in the form of a small pool; we drank from this spring water and nobody fell ill.

Worth a visit

Superb hike.
Don't hesitate to visit Saignon.
Best done in June when the lavender is in bloom in the vast fields.

The route has been changed today to avoid private property.

After point 2, it is not advisable to proceed directly to point 3. Your route takes us through private property, which has been signposted on numerous occasions, including a sign stating ‘no hikers allowed’.

The waypoints have been changed; the issue was between (3) and (4).

A hike in slightly overcast weather, but with some lovely views. A steep descent to Le Castellet. The village of Saignon is well worth a visit.

Hello marcmoine, and thank you for sharing your experience.

Indeed, it would be helpful if the author could explain how to organise the return journey...

Regarding the section crossing private property, a warning has been added to the introduction of the hike description.

@ the author of the hike: the route needs to be amended to avoid unauthorised entry onto private property.

First of all: why not make it circular? Once you reached the Fringants car park, how did you get back to the starting point? ON FOOT, I suppose!!!!!!!!!!
After point 2, it is not advisable to head straight for point 3. Your route takes us through private property, which is signposted repeatedly, even with a ‘no hikers’ sign. As soon as you come across the first signs, go straight on to reach the Auribeau road. Then turn right towards Saint Pierre Chapel.
I wanted to follow the entire route. That was a mistake. I climbed up to point 7, a tough, uninteresting climb. After nearly falling into the trap at point 8, I began the descent along a path that was more or less visible at first but then disappeared completely. So I ended up ‘off-piste’ through woods, branches and brambles. Did you say scratches? .................... For my part, I’ll do this hike again, turning left at point 6, La Marauvière, towards Castellet.
Then, between points 10 and 11, I’ll take a path to the left towards La Molière (checking the GPS, of course)

Hello,
All you need to do is sign up on Visorando (I think you’ve already done that).
Then you download it and you can print it out.
It’s free, of course.

Kind regards

Hello, could you tell me if I can print a Visorando hiking route before I’ve done it, and if so, how and with which subscription?
Thank you

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

After the location marked ‘Anadare’, do not try to follow the red route (the path leads into a ploughed field!!) but stay on the purple route shown on the map.

So between the point (11) and the finish (E)

We hope the author will take this into account and update their route.

See you soon

The description is a bit vague and there’s a problem with the route: after the place marked ‘L’Anadare’, don’t try to follow the red route (which leads into a ploughed field!!) but stick to the purple route on the map.
A lovely walk with varied scenery and beautiful autumn colours.
Thank you

A magnificent route; the path is good right up to the climb above Auribeau. Be careful on the descent: there’s hardly any path left; you’ll have to search for it through the undergrowth and it’s very steep.
You can skip this section by heading down to the car park at the signpost, which is roughly halfway up the climb.

A very beautiful and physically demanding hike, but we had great difficulty finding the path between points 8 and 9 as we were off the marked trails (our hiking GPS saved the day); we almost turned back several times because the path was hidden by the vegetation. I would advise hikers starting from point 8 to retrace their steps back to point 6 and then follow the marked trail to point 9.
