Description of the walk

Park in the station car park (Place de la Gare).

(S/E) Join the D9 and turn right, cross the railway line, then the bridge over the canal (at lock no. 50). Just before the hotel-restaurant, turn left onto the towpath along the canal. Follow it to lock no. 48 in Curel and the junction with the D179 at the entrance to Chatonrupt-Sommermont.

(1) Turn left onto the road to Curel, crossing the canal and the railway line. Please note that the pavements are narrow, so walk in single file. Continue to the first path on the left and its footbridge, just before the cast iron statue of the white horse that stands on the island between the two arms of the river (the Osne).

(2) Go through the barrier on the left and continue to the right along the river upstream. Pass a water wheel and a pretty footbridge to reach a stone bridge, then the D8.

(3) Cross it carefully (beautiful Savonnière stone houses) and continue opposite on the D179 along the river until you reach the intersection with Rue de Ham.

(4) Take this street on the left, which soon joins another small street. Turn completely left and go to the top of a small hill.

(5) Turn right. Now the serious part begins, as you tackle the most difficult part of this hike: a continuous, fairly steep climb of 1,600 metres with an elevation gain of 125 metres. You will arrive at a three-way junction at the top of the hill (Le Haut de Crémont).

(6) Continue left and follow the main path to the edge of the forest, then to a T-junction at a place called Le Haut de Fosse.

(7) Turn left onto this wide path and follow it to the entrance to Chevillon (for the more curious, halfway down, you will pass close to an archaeological site). You will arrive at a crossroads with the first houses in sight.

(8) Keep left downhill, pass a small car park and a fountain (on your right) and continue left to the wash house.

(9) Follow Rue du Fourneau to the left, then the path along the Rau de Chevillon downstream. It moves away from the stream, then closer to it as it reaches a road (D8).

(10) Cross it carefully and continue along the small street opposite (Rue du Bocard). Turn into the first street on the right, cross the bridge over the stream and go to the end of the street, to the stop sign before the D8 (Rue de la Gare).

(11) Turn left along the D8 until you reach Place de la Gare before the railway line, then the car park (S/E).
