The start and finish points, easily accessible by car, are located at the Grand Ballon car park at the top of the pass of the same name.
(S/E) From the car park, climb towards the Restaurant du Grand Ballon and turn left onto the trail. Follow theGR®5 Red Rectangle markings towards the Grand Ballon until you reach the radar station.
(1) Head towards the Monument des Diables Bleus stele visible on the left. Pass to the left of the monument to descend the path starting at the wooden staircase located about a hundred metres below. Follow the signs for Col du Haag to walk along the path skirting the Grand Ballon and arrive at the Haag farm.
(2) Take the road downhill to the left of the farm towards Markstein. After about a hundred metres, at the bend, continue straight on along the forest path.
(3) At the first fork in the path, take the right-hand path and you will come to a barrier. Take the small path down to the left to reach the Storkenkopf Refuge.
(4) Follow the path uphill behind the chalet. Continue along the path until you leave the forest and reach the Route des Crêtes, located at the top on the right.
(5) Cross it and take the path on the right towards Col du Haag / Grand Ballon, marked with a yellow rectangle. Follow the road until you reach it again. At this point, take the forest path downhill to the left towards the Riedisheim ski club chalet-refuge (Refuge Moorfeld-Storkenkopf).
(6) At the forest path junction, cross it and continue straight ahead. Continue towards Col du Haag, marked with a yellow rectangle. A few metres further on, take the path ascending to the right and you will reach the Haag farmhouse inn.
(2) Cross the road and take the path ascending into the clearing on the left, which runs alongside the Route des Crêtes towards the Grand Ballon. A little further up in the clearing, continue along this path towards the Club Vosgien chalet-hotel, marked with a red rectangle crossed out in white. Continue uphill to reach the restaurant. Walk past it to reach the car park below (S/E).
