Park in the car park of the Chalet-Hôtel du Grand Ballon.
(S/E) Head towards the summit and follow the route marked with a red ring.
After about 100 metres, at the fork, take the path that climbs slightly opposite. Ignore the two paths that branch off to the right and continue to a hairpin bend.
(1) Turn right onto the widest path. When this path curves to the right, ignore the path that branches off to the left and descends, which will quickly take you to either the Route des Crêtes or theGR®5towards Thann. Continue straight ahead.
(2) Leave theGR®5, which branches off to the left towards Markstein, and turn right to continue the ascent, taking care not to leave the marked path. Further up, first head for the Monument des Diables Bleus by turning left, then to the radar station a little further on. Climb the stairs on the left to enjoy a breathtaking view of the Thur valley.
(3) Go back down the stairs and take the concrete path opposite. Caution: in icy conditions, this path may be slippery.
At the end of the concrete path, take the path on the right, walk about 50 metres, then take the path that also branches off to the right to reach the 360° viewpoint. Retrace your steps for a few dozen metres, then take the path that descends to your right.
Continue down this path, which will take you directly back to your starting point at the car park (S/E).
