Route du Trieux to Pabu

A walking route that runs partly alongside the Trieux and offers views of two old mills once used for flax scutching. This route, of which I am one of the authors, was created by the municipality of Pabu and accredited by the French Hiking Federation. Trail marked in yellow.

Description of the walk

This route starts in the village centre, at Place du 19 Mars 1962.

(S/E) You walk past Saint-Tugdual Church (which you can visit on your way and admire its fresco painted in 2008–2009) along Rue de l’Église until you reach Rue de la Poterie (departmental road 787), which you cross. Opposite, take the path that will lead you along an artificial pond via a footbridge.

(1) You’ll reach a dam where you can admire the beautiful stonework on your right; cross it before heading downhill. Continue to the junction of the path leading to the Kerhré wash house.

(2) At the junction, continue straight on along the Chemin de Munehorre to reach the Trieux: an alternative route is possible here; see the ‘Practical Information’ section.

(3) At the end, at the bottom of the fairly steep descent, turn left to follow the Trieux: an alternative route is possible here; see the ‘Practical Information’ section.

(4) After passing the Moulin du Pont weir: an alternative route is possible: see the ‘Practical Information’ section.

(5) At the end of the path along the Trieux, take the small tarmac road on your left. Then take the road on the right towards Kerhuel and walk alongside the manor house, which can be admired from the road.

(6) On reaching Galibordo, turn left onto the wide dirt track blocked by a boulder. Walk past the Akadémi and the Pro Park (En Avant Guingamp’s training and development facilities); at the end of the football pitches, go round them via the small uphill path on your left. After passing the pitches (on your left), leave the Rucaër roundabout on your right and turn left onto the cycle path running alongside the road leading to Trivis.

(7) On the road to Trivis, at the decorated electricity substation, turn right into the sunken lane. At the end of this path, turn left onto the footpath (opposite: you may wish to see the Runevarec flax retting pits opposite the exit from the path).

(8) After about 300 m, turn left onto the small tarmac road and head towards the hamlet of Saint-Séverin via Rumabon. Cross the hamlet of Saint-Séverin, pass by the Château de Munehorre – whose turret and roofs are visible – then follow the cycle path to the main road. At the end of this cycle path, turn left onto the safe hard shoulder along the main road and head towards the village of Pabu. Turn right to reach the Place du 19 Mars 1962 (S/E).

Notes

(2) You can head down to the right to see the Kerhré wash house and then return to the junction (100 m round trip).
(3) You can also head right (320 m round trip) to admire the old flax-scutching mill, which still retains the frame of its waterwheel. In its heyday, it employed around 25 people.
(4) At this point, you can take the path that climbs up to your left; it takes you straight back to the hamlet of Saint-Séverin, cutting the walk in half.

After walking past the back of the training centre, you had to go round it to the left via the uphill path beyond the football pitches, then leave the Rucaër roundabout on your right and turn left again to walk alongside the pitches along the footpath towards Trivis as far as the transformer, as indicated in points 6 and 7. Normally, there is a sign pointing to the small uphill path.
You therefore ended up at Castel Pic (social housing blocks).
Sorry, we’ll clarify this point.

We did indeed go as far as the training centre, and after that we carried on along the road without ever seeing the transformer or the manor house. We arrived not far from a neighbourhood with apartment blocks. We continued our journey along the road that links St Agathon to Pabu

Hello Lolo2214,
Thank you for your comments. Could you please specify which part of the route is lacking in information and explanations, particularly regarding the end of the route?
Kind regards.

Hi, we enjoyed the tour. The only downside was a lack of information at one point where the explanations weren’t clear enough, but we missed the end of the tour.

Hello,
I’ve noted the change in difficulty rating and have updated it to ‘moderate’, but I’m surprised by your references to steps. Apart from a fairly steep descent after the Munehorre pond, there are no major difficulties, but the route consists mainly of paths.
Kind regards.

Hello,
I’m sorry, but the “Circuit du Trieux” is certified by the French Hiking Federation and is therefore listed as such. The other hike follows sections of several different routes.
Kind regards.

The route is rated as "easy"; it should really be rated at least "moderate" and almost "difficult" as the paths are very stony and there are numerous steps, which may cause problems for older people with joint problems...

It’s a shame that your route name is so similar to another walk that follows the same route as yours: “Circuit du Trieux” and “Circular Route du Trieux” are too similar, so we got confused at Galibordo.
