Circular route around Ploumagoar via Saint Hernin and the Bois de Kergré

This easy circular trail runs around Ploumagoar, winding through the countryside and valleys of small streams, the pretty Bois de Kergré with its contemporary statues and its well-maintained path, ideal for strolling and relaxing.

Between these two natural areas, a few more "urban" paths will take you to Sait-Hernin with its picnic area located next to the spring, the wash house and the recently renovated bread oven.

Description of the walk

The starting point is located in the carpool car park along the RN 12 and is accessible via the road serving the Runiou industrial estate (Lidl store).

(S/E) Cross the road at the roundabout and take Rue des Myosotis. At the end, take the path on the right and you will come to a small road.

(1) Turn left and continue straight ahead on Rue des Ajoncs d'Or. Leave the houses behind, ignore the path on the left and, between two horse paddocks, find the PR® trail that leaves the road.

(2) Follow this path to the right, which enters the woods and then descends into the valley. Cross a stream and turn right, then quickly turn left, following a small stream. A little further up, you will find a small basin blocking the stream. Then join Route de Bel Air.

(3) Follow it to the left and you will reach Saint-Hernin, its spring, its wash house and its bread oven.

(4) Turn left, then straight on at the crossroads and walk along Rue Joseph Derrien to reach the intersection with Rue de l'Argoat, D767.

(5) Turn right with caution, as this is a busy road. Go past the first intersection and, a little further on, look for Rue du Chemin Vert, which branches off to the left. Follow it to the end and you will come to its intersection with Rue de Poul Ranet.

(6) Cross it carefully and follow the farm track opposite, slightly to your left. Continue and turn left at the end. When you reach the road, follow it to the left and pass Route de Nervet Hir. At the end of the hamlet, look for the fork in the path at the stream.

(7) Descend to the right along the stream and follow the path which leads to the Route de Kerguillou and the entrance to the Kergré woods.

(8) Then descend to your left and follow this path winding between the sculptures. Turn left at the next intersection and climb up to the clearing to enjoy the site. At the next crossroads, turn right to descend into the valley. Turn left, cross the stream, then cross the white path and take the path that immediately turns left at the edge of the woods. Back on the road, continue until you reach Moulin de Kergré. Find the path that leaves the road below the RN 12.

(9) Take this path, which runs alongside the fields and the national road, in complete safety. Further on, you will arrive at Rue Louis Aragon, which you will follow on your left. Continue to the junction with Rue du 19 Mars 1962.

(10) Turn right onto this street, and immediately afterwards, turn left into the small street that continues into an alley. You will come to another dead end; follow it and turn left at the next crossroads. At the right-angle bend, go straight ahead into the pedestrian alley between two hedges. At the crossroads, turn right to reach the boxwood dead end.

(11) Take this road and continue to the roundabout on the D767.

(12) Cross the roundabout and turn right onto Rue du Pavillon Bleu. Then take the first street on the left and continue straight ahead on the marked path. Then rejoin the path you took at the start.

(1) Turn right and, following the same route as on the way there, return to the carpool car park near the RN 12 (S/E).
