Description of the walk

Park in the park car park.

(S/E) From the car park, go through the entrance gate. On the left is a map of the park and surrounding area. Walk a few metres to the information board explaining the history of the Château du Plessis, which was destroyed during the last war.
Turn left and follow the white path towards the lake. Cross the footbridge between the small artificial waterfall and the pond. Continue around the pond on your right until you reach a crossroads.

(1) At the crossroads, turn left, walk alongside a football pitch, continue straight ahead at the next crossroads and you will reach another crossroads.

(2) Cross a footbridge, walk alongside the retirement home and reach Rue Jean Le Coutailler.

GR®34White and red markings

First turn right then left to cross the street and take the path that runs alongside a school on the left and then a wetland on the right. Cross Avenue Président Allende at the pedestrian crossing and join a path running alongside an old railway line (GR® signpost).

(3) Continue left along this path through the woods overlooking the old railway line. Turn left then right to descend via a wide sunken path onto the D194. Follow the cycle path to the right to cross the Pont de Bouc bridge.

(4) At the end of the bridge, turn right onto the path that runs alongside the mudflat and stream (information panel about birds). Continue along this path, bordered on the left by meadows where horses regularly graze.
At the sign for "lavoir à 150m" (wash house 150m away), turn left for a round trip to the Toulbahado wash house. Retrace your steps and continue along the ria. Another sign on the left indicates the fountain of the same name a few metres away. It is surrounded by a wooden fence. Pass a bird observatory and reach Rue de Pen Mané, which you follow to the right along the grassy strip.

No signposts

On the left, you will see a large building that was once the Plessis mill, destroyed by fire in 1933 and converted into rental accommodation in 1960 (view of the Blavet).

(5) Turn right along the right bank and you will come out onto the cycle path.

(3) Cross Avenue Président Allende at the pedestrian crossing.
At the railway sign, follow the path on the left along the edge of the marsh. It continues along a long wooden walkway and ends at a dead end. Continue to the roundabout and go up the street on the right along the grassy strip under the trees.
At the EHPAD sign, cross Rue Jean Le Coutailler and walk alongside the retirement home, which is now on your left.

(2) At the footbridge, turn left onto the uphill path and follow it until you reach the boules courts. Pass between these courts on your left and the old animal pens on your right. You will arrive near the remains of a dovecote, which probably dates fromthe 15th or16th century. You can still see 120 nesting boxes.
Turn left to return to the exit and the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

Le Parc du Plessis. A 12-hectare green space, the estate was home to the Château du Plessis, which was destroyed during the war. Visitors can enjoy century-old trees, a landscaped pond, a fitness trail and a boules court.

The remains of the Château du Plessis (15th century). Seat of the seigneury of Plessis or Quinquis. Successively owned by the Thomelin du Plessis family (in 1427 and 1464), the Penhoat-Chefdubois family, the Launay family (in 1536), the Riou family (in 1650) and the Mauduit family (18th century). The château was destroyed during the 1939-1945 war. It once had a private chapel. The park was purchased by the municipality of Lanester in 1973. A section of the dovecote (15th century) remains.

A pleasant stroll in a wooded park that is easy for children to access. However, access is not easy as it is located in the city.

Urban route passing through Plessis Park and Mill. The route indicated is reliable, often following the GR trail. We did not make the short detour to the fountain (300 m round trip), so the route covered was 4 km in 1 hour. It follows the paths through the park and around the pond. Very good for a post-lunch family walk.

We did this very enjoyable hike with two young children (22 months and 3½ years old). We were equipped with baby carriers, which we used once we had crossed the goat bridge. We really appreciated the diversity of the landscapes, between the countryside and the town... And also the shaded areas.
To motivate our 3½-year-old daughter, we invented a treasure hunt, the highlight of which was a battle with a hydra in the Toulbahour wash house. Anyway, I digress... It all ended with a picnic in the Plessis playground. Needless to say, that's what the children liked best *
We were very impressed by the old burnt-down mill, which was converted into a building in the 1960s.
Thank you very much for this lovely moment.
