Description of the walk

Departure from Quai du Péristyle in Lorient. Parking is available on the streets (limited to 1.5 or 3 hours) and in the "Nayel" and "Place d'armes" underground car parks

(S/E). Walk along the Quai du Péristyle on the Scorff side, then turn left onto Rue du Saint-Géran and then take the Rampe des Fours à Chaux. At the top of the hill, turn right to reach the mills and continue straight on after the Tour de la Découverte to reach the Hôtel Gabriel on the street of the same name.

(1) Turn left. Continue along Rue de Gemené, then turn right to enter Square Rio. Exit the square and walk up to Place Polig-Montjarret, located on the left at the park exit.

(2) Go around the square on the right, then turn right onto Rue du Port. Turn right at the fourth street, Rue de la Patrie, then left onto Rue de Liège and finally right onto Rue de l'Assemblée Nationale to reach Place Alsace-Lorraine. Continue straight ahead until you reach the intersection with Cours de Chazelle.

(3) Turn right, cross the avenue and then take the first right, Rue Colbert. At the three-way junction, turn left to continue along Rue Colbert, then turn left. Opposite the pharmacy, turn right and continue straight ahead along the car parks of the Hôpital du Scorff to reach Avenue Étienne-François de Choiseul.

(4) Continue straight ahead, then turn left to follow the banks of the Scorff. Cross the three bridges and you will arrive at the junction between Boulevard du Scorff and Rue Amiral Favereau after passing the Tréfaven sports complex on your left.

(5) Cross over to enter the Parc de Bois du Château. Stay on the main path, ignoring the paths on the left, and exit the park to return to Rue Amiral Favereau.

(6) Turn right, then left about 150 metres further on to go around the BMX track and rejoin the path that runs along the water's edge and goes upstream. Stay along the watercourse until you reach the tarmac road.

(7) Turn left, cross Rue du Scorff and continue almost opposite to reach Rue du Bois du Château. Turn right, then left at the car park to follow the path that climbs up to the sports fields.

(8) Turn right along the field and right again along the Piscine Tournesol swimming pool.

(9) Cross Rue du Bois du Château and make a quick first turn left then right to take the path that branches off to the left and runs alongside the street to a roundabout.

(10) Turn right to cross the bridge over the four-lane road and right again onto the path marked "Rando des Vallons". Follow the path, ignoring the accesses to the houses on the left, walk along the ecological pond, keeping to the path which curves to the left further on and runs along a wooded area before joining Rue Marie le Franc.

(11) Cross over and continue along the path opposite. At the junction on the decking, turn left, go up the stairs and you will arrive at Rue de Kerulvé.

(12) Turn right onto the street, then left at the roundabout. At the next roundabout, take the third exit and go up Boulevard Pierre Mendès France to the Keryado roundabout.

(13) Cross the avenue in two stages at the pedestrian crossing, then turn right onto Rue Eugène Anthiome to reach another large roundabout. Take the third exit to follow Rue Jean-Marie Le Guiff. Continue in the same direction, passing between the buildings to reach Rue de l'Embellie.

(14) Turn right, then left onto Allée des Marronniers and enter the park. Turn right to climb the steps and take the footbridge. Join the cycle path.

(15) Take the path between the houses opposite and continue straight ahead at each crossroads until you reach Rue Claude Rouget de Lisle at the end.

(16) Turn left to find the path on your right after about 50 metres. At the exit, follow Avenue Maximilien de Robespierre on your left until you reach the roundabout.

(17) Take the first exit on the right onto Rue Général de la Bollardière, then keep left at the next roundabout towards a bus stop.

(18) Turn right before the bus stop and take the alleyway that runs alongside the Agora building and goes around it to enter the park. Follow the main path to the roundabout at the emergency services centre.

(19) Cross at the pedestrian crossing on the left and follow the path along the road, ignoring the pedestrian crossing on the right. Cross the bridge and take the pedestrian crossing to enter Chevassu Park. Keep right at the gate, then go down the gravel path.

(20) Turn right, then immediately left to go up to the playground. Walk past the house and continue along this path. Walk past the aviary, then go down the steps. Cross the bridge and exit the park by going up the steps near the well.

(21) At the street, keep right and cross the bridge. Turn left, then immediately right onto Mail des Martyrs de Soweto to reach the path between the buildings on the left towards Rue d'Annaba. Turn right, then continue left to Parc Youri Gagarine.

(22) Enter the park, walk past the Conservatoire and take the first path on the right to reach Rue de Lanveur. Turn right, then left at the intersection and take Rue Gaston Le Lain. Continue straight ahead until you reach Rue Maurice Thorez.

(23) Turn right, then left after the block of flats to reach the small park, then Avenue du Capitaine Marienne, where you turn left. Follow this avenue to the Espace Jeunesse.

(24) Take the bridge on the right, then cross the avenue to enter Parc de Venzu. Continue straight ahead and leave the kiosk on your right. Go down the path and exit at the corner of the Kervenanec stadium.

(25) Cross the road and take the path that goes down into the woods. You will arrive at the Étang du Ter. Walk along the left side of the pond until you reach the Kermélo bridge.

(26) Take the path on the right that passes under the bridge and keep to the right along the riverbank. Pass the wooden decking and continue along this path until you reach a fork after the European Centre for Continuing Education.

(27) Continue straight ahead along the quays until you reach the corner of K1, take the footbridge and cross the Papin embankment on your left.

(28) At the fishing port quays, turn left and follow the main street that goes around the ship repair yard. Continue to the fork at the end of the street.

(29) Turn left onto Rue Henri Estier, then left onto Avenue de la Perrière. Cross the bridge, then turn right onto Rue du Calvaire. Follow the street past the Carnel cemetery and you will reach a green space.

(30) Turn left into the green space and walk between the cemetery wall and the gymnasium. After the gymnasium, turn right and then almost opposite, take Rue de la Bourdonnais. Take the second street on the right, Rue Alfred de Musset, and continue to the roundabout.

(31) Turn left onto Boulevard de la République. Follow this road to the roundabout, where you take the first exit on the left onto Rue Amiral Courbet. Do the same at the next roundabout to reach Parc Brizeux.

(32) Enter the park on the right, cross it going straight ahead, then follow Rue Henri Andrieu opposite. At the quay, turn left, then cross the bridge.

(33) Turn right and walk along the quays to return to your starting point at the end of Promenade du Péristyle (S/E).

  • Chevassu Park (1.5 hectares): remarkable garden (2006); statue of Auguste Brizeux (1888); former water network of the Compagnie des Indes (1740).
  • Kervenanec district: Venzu Park (2009), former Kervenanec farms (17th–19th centuries).
  • Ter ponds Saint-Mathurin (1756) and Kermélo (1967) ponds; fed by the Ter.
  • Croix de la Vérité (1711): listed as a historic monument in 1944
  • Quais de Rohan: floating dock (1870) and lift bridge; Art Deco Chamber of Commerce and Industry (1931); merchants' mansions (circa 1860).
