Description of the walk

From Raulhac, take the D990 towards Pierrefort, then the D401 to Malbo. Park in the car park at the entrance to the village.

(S/E) From the car park, walk up through the village and pass to the left of the town hall (Rue des Cassalouts) until you reach the first bend.

(1) Leave the road and take the path on the left, following the black signposts.

(2) After a short descent, you’ll reach a fork in the path; continue straight ahead. Cross a stream and stay on the same path until you reach the first tufa formation (marked by a sign).

(3) After a pleasant read, continue along the path to reach a second geological formation.

(4) Here too, there is an information board. Follow the path to the bottom of the valley.

(5) Turn left and cross the bridge over the River Siniq. Continue left at the next junction and you’ll reach the junction by the waterfall.

(6) Turn left onto the signposted path towards the Cascade du Capat and walk down along the field to the access ramp. At the waterfall, there is an information board detailing the history of the volcano.

(7) Take a moment to enjoy the waterfall, then return to the fork in the path.

(6) Turn left to continue on your way. Keep to the left on the track until you reach the buildings at Capat.

(8) Join the tarmac road leading to La Francio (the next buildings).

(9) Leave the tarmac road, take the path between the two buildings and follow the slightly steep track back to the fork where you started.

(2) Turn right and return to the car park at the entrance to the village via the reverse route of the outward journey (S/E).

A lovely walk through the woods to the waterfall – absolutely stunning. The only downside was at marker 9, where the slope was a bit steep
, which turned out to be a very tough and stony climb.

A walk that begins with a pleasant little path through the woodland, which quickly turns into a wide, straight grassy track. After the bridge, the track becomes a stony path and then tarmac. The final stretch is along a narrow path that is starting to become overgrown with brambles. I therefore did not find this route particularly pleasant to follow.
As for the geological formations, the vegetation is starting to reclaim the area and they’re no longer very visible – which is a shame.
On the other hand, the waterfall is magnificent and offers a refreshing respite from the heatwave, which is not the case for the route itself.
