Walk through the village of Saint-Mélany. Before reaching Le Villard, park in the car park on the left at the bend.
(S/E) Set off towards Le Villard and, at the junction, take the tarmac road down to the right. Follow the white-and-yellow markings. At the end of the road, continue along the path that runs above the houses (with stone walls and slate roofs)
(1) At the ‘l’Eyrolle’ signpost, turn left towards Dompnac and Saint-Régis via theGR®® de Pays ‘Le Cévenol’, following the yellow-red markings.
Pass the hamlet of L’Eyrolles, cross the access road above to join the Sentier des Lauzes with its artworks.
600 metres after crossing the road, a series of carved slate slabs set into the low wall on the right invites you to follow them. You’ll need to return to where you started to continue along the signposted path, which descends towards the stream on the right as you come back (on the left if you haven’t gone down).
There are other artworks to discover along the way. Carry on towards Buissière, following the signposts.
After Buissière, the path becomes a track; leave it at the first hairpin bend to rejoin a path on the right towards Le Vernet.
(2) At the ‘Le Vernet’ signpost, turn left towards Dompnac. At the road above L’Adreyt, turn left then take the path on the right. Follow the GRP®® signposting. Join a wide track very close to Le Travers and follow it to the right. At the Fork in the road, veer left and keep left at the next junction. 50 metres further on, take the hairpin bend to the right onto the path.
(3) At the Grimal cross, continue to the right along the forest road until you reach the Saint-Régis Chapel. 100 metres after the chapel, take the tarmac road on the left.
(4) At the ‘La Croix des Lèbres’ signpost, take the white-and-yellow marked path leading down to the left towards Dompnac. A lovely paved slanting street, sometimes running along a ledge.
(5) At the signpost marked ‘Le Théron’, head straight on towards Dompnac. In Dompnac, take the tarmac road that passes in front of the school and the church. Continue downhill towards the bridge over the Ruisseau de Sueille.
400 metres after the bridge, leave the road and take the path leading uphill to the right, following the markings. The path continues through the houses of Lachamp de Merle (lodge) before descending towards Merle. Take the road on the right and walk through the hamlet.
(6) After the last house, follow the white-and-yellow signposted path which descends to the left beneath the road.
Cross the first stream 30 metres before the Ruisseau de Sueille.
(7) A ford which can be tricky after heavy rain. The path continues downstream along the left bank.
Follow the markings. This path climbs steeply before descending gently towards the hamlet of La Coste.
Follow the tarmac road to the D420.
(8) Continue left uphill towards the village of Saint-Mélany, and pass through it before reaching the car park (S/E).
