Beaumont discovery trail through ridges and forests

The Beaumont village discovery trail is perched in the Ardèche Cévennes. A circular route starting and finishing in the village, near the inn, offering superb scenery! On a clear day, you can see the snow-capped Alps and Mont Ventoux to the east; part of the walk takes you through pine and chestnut woods, etc.

Description of the walk

Park in the main square of the village of Beaumont.

(S/E) Take the road that passes in front of the town hall and climbs alongside the cemetery. Keep left at the Fork in the road just after this and then follow the forest track to your right through the pine and chestnut trees.

(1) Cross the Ruissau de la Borie upstream of the spring of the same name and continue to the first viewpoint at the Col de la Resquillette (not shown on the map). On a clear day, you can see Mont Ventoux and the snow-capped peaks of the Alps.

Continue along the track, taking a tarmac section, and at the junction turn right onto the DFCI towards Valgorge/Dompnac/Saint-Mélany. A beautiful viewpoint over the Bolze valley to the east, the Tanargue ridges to the north and the Baume valley to the west.

(2) Pass the wooden water tank with the ‘Col des Cayras’ signpost on your left. Immediately take the small path on your right that leads downhill, marked in yellow and white by the Vie et Tourisme association. Walk down through the holm oaks and chestnut trees to the signpost for “l’Ouste”. Facing the signpost, follow the signs for Beaumont to the left.

(3) At the hamlet of Fraysse, continue along the path, keeping to the right. Follow the yellow and white markings without going back down, and you will reach the Route de la Roche.

(4) Cross it diagonally and continue along the signposted path directly opposite.

(5) Cross the Ruisseau du Brousson and continue straight on.

(6) Cross the Ruisseau de la Borie, where you can admire the pretty pools carved out by the water. Continue to Route de Flacouze.

(7) Turn right, then left onto the Route de la Roche, pass the cemetery and then the town hall to reach the village square (S/E).

Notes

It is a "moderate" hike, but you will still need the basic kit: good walking shoes, water, a hat (for the sun), a jacket, etc.

Between the Col des Cayras and the hamlet of Fraysse, the route follows that of the "Tour du Tanargue".

Worth a visit

At (S/E) is the village inn of Beaumont, Le Thélème.

A lovely hike with some beautiful views.
We did the route in reverse, which I recommend. The short, steep path through the woods between 3 and 2 is best tackled on the way up, and the descent from the Col des Cayras along a wide track allows you to enjoy the scenery more fully.

Hello, following the helpful comment from "Rochelle 1951", we have corrected point 4. You must head up the Route de la Roche and take the signposted path on the left.

Enjoy your walk, everyone!

It was a lovely, varied walk.
The description was accurate up to point 4. There, it says: ‘Cross the Route de la Roche and take the marked path directly opposite’, but it should read: ‘Continue along the Route de la Roche for 200 metres and take the marked path on the left!!!’
