Description of the route

Town hall car park.

(S/E) Walk past the town hall on your right along the A-road, then take the first street on the left, Rue Saint-Roch. Opposite the police station, turn right onto the grassy path known as Chemin des Préaux. Further up, at the junction, turn right and join the D80 at a place called Gérard Croix.

(1) Follow the tarmac road to the left, then take the first left.

(2) At the next four-way junction, continue straight on until you reach the Masure farm.

(3) At the corner of the farm, turn right and follow the buildings. Ride along the track through the fields. View of the villages of Bousignies-sur-Roc and Bersillies-l’Abbaye (Belgium), through which the rivers Hante and Thure flow.

(4) At the bottom of the descent, turn left into Bousignies-sur-Roc via Rue de Roue Sèche.

(5) After the bridge over the Hante, go up to the left then keep left, ignoring Rue d’Iau. Walk past the cemetery along Ruelle des Digues then take the lane on the left; at the end of it, turn left onto Rue de la Scierie. Follow the Hante river to the sawmill, ignore Rue du Vivier Loir on the right; at the T-junction, turn right and follow the Bois du Féfu. At the 162m mark, turn right onto Terne du Mont

(6) At the T-junction, follow the tarmac road to the left (Chemin Montignies Saint-Christophe). At the next crossroads, turn right and then immediately take the dirt track to the left at the corner of the barn. At the next fork, continue to the right and then turn left onto the tarmac road leading to the hamlet of Comagne (RD80).

(7) At the top of the hill, turn right. At the small chapel, turn right again. Stay on the main dirt track (Chemin des Trieux de Comagne) and 750 m further on, at the junction, turn left then right.

(8) Turn left and take thefirst left into the woods. Take care

(9) Turn right towards Fonds des Gouttes. Follow the stream on the left. At the bottom, follow the path to the right. As you leave the woods, head left towards La Hante and cross the bridge over the river to reach Reugnies.

(10) Turn left, then left again, and then head up to the right. You will enter Belgium.

(11) At the four-way junction, turn right. You are now on the Chemin des Larrons, running along the French-Belgian border.

(12) At the four-way junction by the old Belgian customs post, turn right onto the RD936 (Rue de Landelies).

(13) At the first building, turn left onto the grassy path, then right towards the pollarded willow hedge. At the end of the hedge, you’ll come out onto a tarmac road.

(14) Take the small road on the left for 800 m, enter the woods,

(15) Turn right and then immediately right again. Walk alongside the arboretum

(16) At the Bois de Waremmes, take the forest path on the right to reach the RD280 (Route d’Hestrud) in the Thure valley.

(17) Follow the D280 to the right for 800 m.

(18) After the Forêt sawmill, head up the stony path on the right. At the top of the hill, at the Y-junction, turn left and then left again at the next Y-junction.

(19) At the Y-junction, continue to the right to reach the Algrain plain.

(20) At Moulin à Vent, do not take the RD936 down towards Cousolre but take the Chemin de Bérelles on your right. Go straight on.

(21) Turn left and at the four-way junction, continue straight ahead. At the Chevalerie stop sign, cross the D936 and ride straight on for 1 km.

(22) Leave the road and take the grassy track on the left. Continue straight on along Chemin de Ruaux towards Rouvroy, ignoring the turn-offs on the right.

(23) At the junction, turn left onto Rue Jules Montay, cross the four-way junction and continue straight ahead on the same road, which becomes the D80. Pass the cemetery.

(24) Turn right onto Rue de Landelies and return to the starting point (S/E).

A lovely route; we sometimes stray from the official route, but it’s worth it.
In the last third of the route, it started to rain and some of the stony descents became really slippery.
Some of the paths through the woods are very little used.
Thanks to the author for giving me a really lovely afternoon.
