Circuit de Trémarec

Discover the village of Landudal with its two churches, located about 100 metres apart, which bear witness to its history.
Walk along the sunken paths of the bocage countryside, which has been spared from land consolidation. Follow in the footsteps of Admiral Yves de Kerguelen, who discovered the southern islands in 1772, which still bear his name.
A wonderful programme of discoveries!

Description of the walk

Parking is available near the church or in the surrounding area.

(S/E) Cross the main street, take the Hent Ar C'hovel alley opposite, then continue right along the road leading out of the village. Pass Kergaradec and ignore the first road going uphill on the left. Continue until you see the sign for "Verger du Ménez".

YellowPR®® markings (in the opposite direction to the route) + Chemin de Compostelle markings (blue and yellow)

(1) Turn left, follow the access road, leave the building on your right and continue straight ahead along the path opposite. At the reservoir, turn right and continue to Kermaria, where the road continues along a path that is closed to motorised vehicles.

YellowPR®® markings (in the opposite direction of the route)

(2) At the signpost (VTT11 and 12), turn left, leaving the blue and yellow markings to continue opposite. You will reach a road at a large hamlet called Le Buzudic.

(3) Turn left and, after about 50 m, turn right at the gable end of a shed to rejoin the path. Follow it slightly uphill (view of the town of Briec). Turn right and continue eastwards until you reach a junction with a small road near the hamlet of Kerhoaillec.

(4) Turn right onto this road and continue to the crossroads near the hamlet of Le Buzudic.

YellowPR®® markings (in the opposite direction of the route) + GR®®38markings (follow these highly visible markings)

Continue straight ahead, heading south, along this path lined with magnificent beech trees and continue until you reach the junction with a road near a house in a place called Bescharles.

No markings

(5) Leave theGR®® for a while by turning right onto the road. Continue for about 250 m to see the entrance to the Manoir de Trémarec (private and not visible), the birthplace of the future Admiral Yves de Kerguelen-Trémarec, who discovered the southern lands that bear his name in 1772. Note the pillars, each topped by a statue of a dog. Retrace your steps.

YellowPR®® markings (in the opposite direction of the route) + GR®®38markings(follow these highly visible markings)

Turn right and continue on theGR®® to reach the Chapelle Seigneuriale Saint-Yves (private) and its calvary dating from 1605. An ideal place for a quiet break.
Continue south along the long beech-lined avenue until you reach a small road.

(6) Cross it and continue straight ahead along a dirt track that veers to the right. Begin the descent along a path lined with beautiful beech trees and arrive at a stream.

(7) Cross it via a rustic footbridge and begin a gentle climb of about 200 m in a straight line. A stream trickles over the rocks and can make this section tricky depending on the flow. At the road, turn right and continue north-west after passing the hamlet of Kervennou. At the junction with a larger road, at a place called Kerriou, turn right and leave theGR®® which goes left.

YellowPR®® markings (in the opposite direction of the route and not very visible)

Follow the road downhill towards the village of Landudal.

(8) At the end of the bend, at a barrier, leave the road and go down to the left (attractive property with a lake). At the first intersection, turn right, follow this stretch of road and then a path that leads to a field. Cross the field, keeping to the path left by the owner.

No markings

(9) Opposite the Kervouziern Névez farm, turn right and follow this small road until it joins the road leading to the village of Landudal. At the "Give Way" sign, turn left and follow this road for about 150 metres.

YellowPR®® markings (in the opposite direction to the route and not very visible)

(10) Turn left onto a small road, cross a small bridge over the Le Langelin stream, a tributary of the Odet, then start a straight climb of about 700 m.

(11) Turn right onto the sunken path that climbs up to the edge of the woods, then veer left along meadows and fields. Ignore the access to the Guer Névez farm on your left and arrive at the Landudal road. Follow it to the right until you reach a crossroads with two houses.

(12) Turn left onto the small road and after about 300 m, turn right onto a path that descends straight towards the stream you crossed earlier. Cross the wooden footbridge (slippery in wet weather) and start climbing towards Kervouziern. At the road, continue straight ahead and continue climbing towards the village of Landudal. Pass the school on your left and also leave the access road to the houses on your left.

(13) Turn left onto the path called Ar C'hlozic, go around the Notre-Dame-de-Populo church on the left and arrive at the car park (S/E).

This route alternates between quiet minor roads and wooded sunken lanes, some of which are quite steep.
Along the route, you will find a few old signposts for a route called "Circuit de Saint-Tugdual", which can be used as landmarks.

At (8) after crossing the stream, the climb can be very tricky in winter (water flowing on the path where the rock is exposed).

Shortcut: After the (9), continue straight ahead, find the road and follow it towards Landudal, keeping the bell tower in sight: this shortens the route to 9 km.

A lovely walk in the Landudal countryside.
Be careful, however, because after the point (5), it is no longer possible to take the path that passes near the caretaker's house. A bright red sign saying "private road, no trespassing" makes this clear.
You must therefore continue on the GR38.

A beautiful, varied hike that follows a marked trail in the opposite direction.
Good footwear is essential, and walking sticks are a great help.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.
This winter, many paths are problematic due to weather conditions.
I am not surprised that the climb after the footbridge is tricky, especially at this time of year.
Kind regards

The route is very clear, impossible to get lost. Please note that at the moment the paths are particularly muddy and the 'tricky climb' after the footbridge has turned into a stream;
Very pleasant sunken paths.

A lovely walking route, although a little too much tarmac for our liking. Nevertheless, there are some beautiful sights to discover, including old houses, fountains, a bread oven, churches in the village of Landudal and a chapel with a calvary in the grounds of Trémarec Manor. Don't forget to wear waterproof footwear, as some sections of the route are very wet.
Highly recommended.
