Access: from the Croas Spern roundabout on the D15, head towards the village of Lestonan and drive through it, following Rue de la Papeterie which runs between the old paper mill buildings.
Park on the hard shoulder just before the bridge over the Odet (former indoor tennis hall).
(S/E) With your back to the shed, facing the road, walk up the embankment of the old canal that used to supply the paper mills and follow this now-dry canal to the left. Continue until you reach the first footbridge, the start of the educational trail (sign for the Odet in the shape of a silhouette).
(1) Go past this footbridge and continue up the canal on your right. Below, on the left, flows the Odet. Go past asecond footbridge (yellow marker). This route is dotted with several information panels.
(2) At thethird footbridge, continue straight on to reach the end of the canal where the dam and the water intake used to be (viewpoint).
(3) Retrace your steps, ignore the footbridge over the Odet on your right (GR® markings) and turn left at the footbridge that crosses the canal. Follow the small road to the right that runs alongside the canal. Further signs mark the rest of the route.
Pass a sign indicating the entrance to the woods leading to a korrigan’s cave (I didn’t explore it) and an old oak tree whose low-hanging branches served as a diving board for children when the canal was full of water.
(4) On the left, in a small recess, look out for a small wayside cross dating from 1815, which is said to have been moved to this spot by the Bolloré family, the site’s owners. Continue along this small road, pass a car park and reach Rue de la Papeterie. At the give-way sign, turn right to cross the bridge over the canal and head down to the car park on the right (S/E).
