Countryside south of Edern and west of Briec.

A semi-rural route south of Edern via the Chapel of Notre-Dame de Lannien, one of six chapels in the commune and the only one in the south, then near Château de la Boissière, which had its heyday during the lifetime of Jean Edern Hallier.
The route then takes in the western side of Briec, where the sports and cultural facilities and schools are concentrated.

Note: This route mainly follows small country roads and streets in the urbanised area.

Description of the walk

Park at Place Jean-Edern Hallier behind the church in Edern.

(S/E) From the car park, take the street that runs alongside the church.
At the stop sign, cross Grand Rue at the pedestrian crossing and take the small street opposite. Atthe first junction, turn right into the street that runs between the Résidence des Tilleuls on the right and the Résidence du Puits on the left, and you will come to a stop sign.

(1) Turn left and follow this small road, passing a small roundabout, then a football pitch and the Edern exit sign. Shortly afterwards, note the beautiful stone house (Kerarzant on the IGN map) and, about 50 metres further on, look for a short grassy passage on the right leading to a small shrine housing a Pietà, a votive fountain from the nearby chapel.

(4) Shortly afterwards, a sign on the left indicates the entrance to the imposing 16th-century Chapel of Notre-Dame de Lannien, nestled behind a curtain of oak and chestnut trees. On your return, you will notice that the chapel's bell tower is similar to that of the parish church.

(3) Walk around the building, passing in front of the triangular calvary dating from the same period, then return to the road and continue to the left. At the sign indicating the locality of Lannien, turn right onto a beautiful gravel farm track lined with trees. Follow this track straight ahead until it joins the D50.

(4) Cross this road diagonally to the left with caution and head towards Petite Boissière (sign).

(5) At the crossroads, turn right onto Route du Château (sign), pass in front of the driveway to Château de la Boissière, currently (2021) in poor condition while awaiting a potential buyer, and continue along the small road that crosses the Ruisseau de Langelin to arrive at Route de Landudal (C14).

(6) Enter the woods and follow the path parallel to the road.

(7) You will rejoin the road shortly after the Hameau de la Boissière, where there is a wide pavement on the left-hand side. You will come to a roundabout with a calvary on the left.
Use the pedestrian crossing to cross to the right-hand side, where a footpath has been created, and reach the traffic lights at the police station. Cross Avenue Amiral de la Grandière (D7) carefully and continue straight ahead.

(8) Near the large car parks, turn right and walk alongside the Salle Omnisports Jean Rolland sports hall. You will arrive in the Briec area, where there are a number of sports and cultural centres, as well as various schools and the Maison de l'Enfance children's centre. Go behind the Aquacove swimming pool, then behind the secondary school and to the left of the Salle Colette Besson, which is reserved for schoolchildren.
Go up to the left, past the concrete blocks designed to block access, continue along the street opposite, with the Maison de l'Enfance on your left, and you will come to a calvary on your right.

(9) Turn left towards a roundabout, go around it on the right via the pedestrian crossings and enter Rue de la Résistance. Follow this street along the safe pavement, pass in front of Collège Saint-Pierre and arrive at the roundabout on Rue Frères Bourhis.

(10) Turn left onto this street and join the Anita Conti Garden fitness trail on the right. Walk around it in an anti-clockwise direction and return to the roundabout.

(10) Continue left on the pavement of Rue de la Résistance, pass the sign for the Briec exit via the C38 and, before a large roundabout, turn left to follow the old route of the road (sign for Passage du Pont). Continue along the pavement of Grand Rue towards Edern. Note the attractive wall decorated with a maritime theme, then pass the Renault garage.

(11) At the "Garenne de Pen ar Pont" sign, turn left and continue along the pretty sunken lane that climbs steadily. At the end, turn right to descend towards the car park (S/E).

Thank you for this information and for clarifying point 6.
During my reconnaissance, I saw a sign for construction work, but I did not think that the passage would be blocked.
I will therefore amend my description and route to take this change into account.
All the best with Visorando.

A route designed for walking.
You can't see the castle from the road because the vegetation has grown so much.
At point 6, you can no longer reach the school, as there is construction work underway and the path has disappeared, but you can simply continue along the road.
Even though we liked this route less than the others suggested by Mr Floch, we never tire of discovering new walks and beautiful places thanks to him.

Thank you for this review.
My aim was to introduce people to this beautiful, little-known chapel.
Kind regards

An easy hike, possible in all weather conditions, along quiet country roads (except between points 4 and 5) and around Briec and Edern.
Don't miss: the magnificent Lannien Chapel.
