Méral Route

Car park at Place de l’Église in Méral.

(S/E) From the church forecourt, turn right onto Rue Médéric de Lancesseur. Walk just over 125 metres, then turn right onto Chemin du Moulin. Follow this path down for about 100 metres to reach a small hamlet.

(1) Turn right at the public toilets onto Chemin des Forges. This leads onto Rue du Maréchal Leclerc. Turn left, then right onto Rue des Sports. Carry on straight ahead until you reach the football pitches, then turn left to walk alongside them before joining the main road.

(2) Turn right, carry on straight ahead for about 700 metres, then turn right at the first junction (with a wayside cross on the right). Carry on straight ahead to reach the Le Gravier farm, where a tree-lined path branches off to the right.

(3) Turn onto the track and follow it all the way to where it joins a tarmac road near a new house, at a place called Clairefontaine (small green sign). Turn right, walk 150 metres, then turn left onto a stony track that starts at the hamlet of Le Cap Vert (small green sign). Follow this track until you reach a farm in the hamlet of Le Vieux Presbytère. Leave the farm on your left and head for the small road 150 metres further on.

(4) Continue left along the small road for about 200 metres. The road turns 90° to the left (signposted towards Ballots) and a track branches off to the right at the embankment.

(5) Turn right onto this track and follow it all the way to where it joins a small tarmac road at a bend. Carry on in the same direction until you reach a junction with a main road (D4).

(6) Turn left, carry on straight ahead, pass a first junction on the left (a very narrow road with pine trees at the junction) then, 180 metres further on, a path branches off to the right, running alongside an embankment.

(7) Turn right onto this track and carry on straight ahead for about 500 metres (note that part of the track is not shown on the map) until you reach another track branching off to the right. Take this track and you’ll reach a small tarmac road. Continue along this small road, which makes a wide circular loop to the right, for 2.6 km until you reach a junction with the D142.

(8) Turn right onto the D142 and head towards the village of Méral. Just after passing the ‘entering built-up area’ sign, turn right onto the small road that heads uphill. After 165 metres, a tree-lined path branches off to the left. Take this path and follow it all the way to the end to reach a small housing estate on Rue des Glycines. Turn right, go 100 metres, then turn left onto Rue des Lilas. After 80 metres along this road, in the bend, a path branches off straight ahead between the houses.

(9) Take this path and follow it to the end to come out onto Rue de Bretagne. Cross this road and take Rue des Camélias opposite. Continue to the end of the housing estate, heading left.

(10) Take the footpath between houses nos. 6 and 7 and head towards the EPHAD park. Continue through the park and turn right onto a path that leads behind the grain silos, then join the road. Turn left and walk alongside the cemetery on your right until you come out onto Rue de Bretagne. Turn right and carry on straight ahead to reach Méral Church (S/E)

Parking spaces are available near Méral Church. You’ll also find a grocery shop there.

After walking down the Chemin du Moulin at the start of the walk, you can turn left to walk around the lake and then rejoin the route.
