Route du Bois de Clermont, Le Pertre

Horses reign supreme in Le Pertre: there are numerous stud farms specialising in draught, riding and racehorses, and the racecourse, situated at the foot of the village which has been perched on the hill since the 11th century, is emblematic of the area.
Le Pertre lies on the border between Maine and Brittany, so much so that the young children from Saint-Cyr-le-Gravelais in Maine walk along a pleasant path to get to the school in Le Pertre.
FFRP-certified.
Suitable for both walking and mountain biking.

A lovely, varied walk through the countryside, featuring a castle, a chapel and hamlets… far less muddy than what we’re used to seeing in the region in winter. The Château du Pertre appears to be open to visitors from 1 June to 30 September, from 10 am to 12 noon and from 2 pm to 6 pm. At least, that’s what’s written on the gate. It’s worth checking before you go.

A walk on a very grey day. Lovely paths and small roads with hardly any traffic. The Saint-Joseph Chapel is well worth a visit. The beautiful Bel Air Castle can also be glimpsed through a gap in its boundary wall. The dirt tracks are muddy or very damp at this time of year, but passable in wellies if you want to go everywhere.
