Description of the walk

The Champ de Foire and Liberté car parks are inaccessible on market days (Thursday and Sunday). Parking is available on Rue Étienne Sébert in the car parks of the Alexandre Vincent School or the nursery school, heading towards (1).

(S/E) From the Champ de Foire car park, head towards Rue Étienne Sébert, which opens up near a bakery. Follow it until you pass a nursery school. Leave the road and take a wide agricultural track on the right.

(1) This path soon descends quite steeply. Follow it until, after a sharp right/left turn, you reach a junction with a new path, which you take on the left. Continue straight ahead until you reach a fork. Ignore the path on the right and continue straight ahead. Follow the stream until you come to a pretty little wooden bridge on your right, which you cross.

(2) Follow the path, which first turns left then right. Ignore the small path that starts at the right-hand bend and take a sunken path on your left through the undergrowth. The entrance to this path is marked by a yellow sign saying "turn left".

Follow this path which, after a wide right-hand bend, joins Rue des Côteaux, which you take on your left. A few metres further on, the street makes a right-angle turn to the right. Take the path that opens up in the hollow of the bend and follow it until you reach Rue de Nantes.

(3) Carefully cross the busy road to take Chemin de la Messe opposite. Follow it until you reach a fork, where you will go straight on along Chemin de la Houssais.

(4) Continue straight ahead, ignoring the paths on the right, until you reach the Pont du Gué road, which you will follow downhill on your left. When you reach the Pont du Gué, cross it and take the path on the right at the end.

(5) Chemin des Bruyères will take you to a discreet water treatment plant. On your left, at the top of a meadow, you will see an antenna. Keep going! The path branches off to the left and climbs until you pass at the foot of this antenna. Shortly after this, the path turns left at a right angle.

A few metres further on, turn right just before a large white house, following a yellow sign saying "turn right". Continue straight ahead, ignoring two paths on your left. You will come to a junction with the old railway line, which you will take on your left (yellow sign saying "turn left").

(6) A long straight stretch takes you under Rue des Épluches, then to Rue de la Rinçais, which you cross carefully. Another straight stretch takes you, after a short, fairly steep descent, to a small embankment with a picnic area. Cross it to reach Rue de Sucé, which you cross very carefully, veering slightly to the left to find the rest of the path.

(7) Another straight stretch awaits you until you reach Route de Rennes.

(8) Cross it very carefully at the pedestrian crossing, then turn right and walk a few metres until you find the path again on your left, before a park-and-ride car park. Follow it until you reach Rue de Grandchamp, which you take on your left.

(9) Follow this street straight ahead to reach the Champ de Foire car park (S/E).

Notes

The Champ de Foire car park is located at the beginning of Rue du Champ de Foire, coming from Nantes via Rue de la Mairie. It is inaccessible on market days (Thursday and Sunday). Parking is available on Rue Étienne Sébert in the car parks of the Alexandre Vincent School or the nursery school, heading towards (1).

The hike follows a path that is fairly well marked in yellow. Some signs bear the words " Route de la vallée du Gesvres" (Gesvres Valley Route).

Other hikes use sections of this path. If in doubt, follow the Visorando trail and description.

Worth a visit

(1) The "official" path marked in yellow continues on the left, Rue Étienne Sébert, passing by the Château de Gesvres and its park. It then joins the Nantes road at point (3). This version is relatively uninteresting.

Between points (3) and (4), a sign invites you to follow the Chemin des villages anciens(Ancient Villages Trail) to the right. This is a small detour that adds 2.5 kilometres to the walk. The route is fairly well marked in yellow.

A lovely walk. Thanks to the comments and descriptions, we had very little doubt about the route.
We had our dog with us, who was able to run free almost the entire walk, which was a pleasure!
The road crossings are a bit dangerous but well signposted. The shaded side is really great and we even found two nice water points for the dog and humans.

Hello. Yesterday, we hiked along the Gesvres Valley route from Treillières and enjoyed the route.
A few minor comments:
- Due to roadworks, we used the La Fontaine car park, a little further down Rue Etienne Sébert, but that's not your fault.
- At point 1, the farm track, we hesitated to take it because there was a sign saying "Private property, no trespassing", so we wondered whether to go on or not. We continued a few metres towards the castle and then returned to the farm track, which we finally took.
- At point 2, we didn't notice the yellow marker telling us to turn left. The marker was a bit faded from the weather. A clarification that would have helped us: you walk along the castle wall on your right until you reach a small entrance gate, and just opposite, a yellow marker tells you to turn left into the woods.
These were the only small moments that caused us to hesitate.
The rest is very well explained.
This is a lovely walk, best done in spring or summer, as tractors have left ruts and made the paths muddy. But again, this is not your fault, as the rains have been so heavy all winter.
Many thanks.
Kind regards.
Mr Dufour.

The route was quite busy on Sunday due to a walking and mountain biking event organised by the local club, but this wasn't too much of a nuisance.
In our opinion, the beginning of the route was more interesting than the end, but others may have a different view.

A beautiful, well-marked, easy route. A "nature-filled" hike with sunken paths lined with magnificent trees and the beautiful Gesvres valley. The car park at the starting point at the fairground is occupied every Thursday and Sunday by the market; parking is available near the schools on Rue Etienne Sebert.
I will definitely do this walk again and will suggest it to my hiking club.
