The Clotilde Legend Route

The route starts at Lantilly Castle (GPS - 47°14'10.9"N 3°43'12.6"E). Car parking is available at the castle.

(S/E) From the château, take the road on the left and cross the Anguison bridge.

(1) At the junction, take the road on the left. 100 m further on, take the path on the right between the meadows and the Bois Boisseau. Join the D147.

(2) Cross it carefully and take the D126 opposite. 400 metres further on, turn left onto the path running alongside the Bois Franc. At the junction, take the path on the left.

(3) Cross the D285 carefully, then turn right at the crossroads. Continue straight on, leaving the path on your right, until you reach the D945 at Gué Boussard.

(4) On the road, turn left and cross the bridge. 100 m further on, take the small path on the right that leads downhill. Follow it alongside the Anguison until you reach the junction with the road.

(5) At the junction, take the path on your left, which goes uphill, and cross the road opposite. Continue until you come back onto the D945.

(6) Take the road on your right until you reach the edge of the forest. Turn left onto the path that runs alongside the Bois de Nandou. Follow it to Précy.

(7) In the hamlet, turn left onto the road, cross the bridge and follow the path to the junction with the D285. Turn right and, 100 metres further on, take the path on the right leading to Précy-Lantilly.

(8) In the hamlet, cross the bridge on the left, then continue along the road towards Gibon.

(9) At the junction, carry straight on and, 400 m further on, turn left onto the track and then left again to take the road on the right which leads to the Château de Lantilly (S/E).

The Legend of Clotilde: at the Manoir de la Chaume lived the four children of a lord beloved by all. War broke out and the three brothers set off to fight. From then on, their younger sister, Clotilde, prayed every evening at Bois-Franc, before a small cross. One evening, three horsemen arrived. Clotilde
recognised her brothers and invited them to dinner. Only an old servant noticed that the horsemen were dropping the food on the ground and that their feet looked like clogs. But by then the horsemen were already taking Clotilde for a ride. After passing the little cross, she endured, all night long,
the worst kind of abuse. They were not her brothers but Satan and two other demons who demanded she renounce God. At dawn, the horsemen vanished. Having recovered from her wounds, Clotilde vowed to pray every day for a year at the chapel of Tressoles to cleanse herself of the defilement she had suffered. A year later, she was found dead in her bed, a smile on her lips. This chapel was a place of pilgrimage in the region for many years.

Lantilly Castle: this medieval castle is thought to date from^{the 14th} century. It originally had six defensive towers, which were destroyed around 1810. Its strategic position allowed it to overlook the road crossing the Morvan from Corbigny.
